Hi soft fellows,

I would like to know how much a musician gets playing in a bar here. Is it for set or for one night ?

Thank you

juz to let you know if it helps, it varies alot and no one will disclose anything so its better not to ask openly hahaha

Hi Marilyn, thanks for your comment,
It's sound really strange for me that "no one will disclose anything". Why ????
Is it a super secret that no one wants to talk about?
Everyone is in the same road here, right ???
Why not talk about one of the most important things for the musicians...
Am I wrong ???? Who here doesn't need money for living ???
Is there anyone here that still is willing to pay for free ????
If yes, this person is NOT a professional just an amateur...
Or maybe musicians here are so well paid that they do not want to let people know, that they get 2000 bucks in a night and they drive a ferrari going back home ????
What is that ????

I believe even non-musicians practice discretion when it comes to sharing their pay with strangers.

Anyways, the range can be anywhere from $40 to perhaps $600 per night, depends on alot of things, such as how good your band is, how big is your band , what day you play on , etc etc

if i may..
the average income of an active pub/bar musician is (+/-) $2k (this is an average ballpark figure) ..it depends on the individual terms and contractual obligations and whatnots..some of them do have a side income as a teacher/instructor..and other extras within the musical industry..

i understand bro marilyn's position as salary is a sensitive issue...you might not know who might be trolling around here..BIG BROTHER might be watching and sooner or later..you might never know...the legal complications that might "bite" you in the ass...

i am not a musician or a BIG BROTHER..hehehe..but i do have friends in the music industry..hopefully this will answer your Qs..

For regular club gigs (not inclusive of events), should range from $100 to about $250 per night. Some bands are paid monthly while some are paid at the end of each night. Other things to consider will be the no. of free drinks you get, free dinner, and free transportation etc. Though not common, some bands are also given CPF contribution from the clubs. As for the no. of sets per night, it should range from 2 to about 3, but the most tiring part is not the playing but the waiting time in between sets.

whats your reason for asking bro?

I am asking because I am from overseas and I would like to figure out how much a regular musician like me, could get paid to perform in a bar...
Thanks all you for your comments...

Note that I did not ask how much anyone here gets, I asked for an average... Some people here freak out giving strange reasons to no comment such as it is personal, or nobody will disclosure that, afraid about a big brother...

Anyway thank you quattro you were the one that gave me the idea about what I asked.

I'm no more a full-time musicians but at one point in time I was but the market has changed drastically. In the late 80's and early 90's, my band was paid between $20 K ~ $30 K per month(6 nites a week/3 sets a nite). This is a contractual term like 3 months or 6 months or so. We will then divide among the members. There are also some who got a contract and recruit members paying some specific amount differently among members.

For now, the market has changed drastically and I'm not too sure the average amount. But was last offered to play in a nite club at $15 k a month for a contractual period of 3 months(6 nites a week/4 sets a nite). They specify they need 2 female vox. However, we didn't take up the offer as we are not able to get the 2 female vox on time.

And I'm just doing a one off gig now a days. Either playing accoustic or full band. The rate is about the same from $80 ~ $200 for 1 set per person. There are times I played for 3 sets per nite getting paid only $150. And there are times I played for free depending on the event. It is just a hobby for now for me.

Saluti!

:mrgreen:If we were paid in kind (per person)

1. 2 packs of cigges x 26 days = 52 packs a month
2. 4 mugs of beer a night (one after each set) X 26 = 104 mugs
3. 4 chicks to raba a night X 26 nights = 26 diffirent chicks (one per night lah)

Make me see that wages for any industry are lower now as compared to the 80s or the 90s. It is a reflection on the global economy I guess.

"market price" really drop a lot since the early days.

Mainly because competition is going stronger, some bands are willing to be paid lower...thus bringing the price down.

However some Five or Six or more(LOL)star hotel lounges are still quite well paid.....

well, there are more and more people playing in bands, and some people out there to spoil the market.

had a friend whose band was offered a couple of nights for some event, but was told a couple of days ahead (after quite a few practices) that they won't be needed. apparently some other band agreed to be paid a lower price for the slot instead. he went there, and told me the replacement band wasn't so good. they were doing it more for the money then the music
