What is the average paid to a musician playing in a bar in Singapore ???

buddy, this is nothing compared to the biggest clown who comes here, types as though he's a lawyer but in actual fact is a GNR ripoff.

and the funny thing is that bout 10 or so pple msged me, agreeing with me that they're rubbish and that pple are afraid to tell it to their faces cos apparently they're 'big'.

another thing is, pple here r the jealous sort. if their neighbour is getting paid $$$$ for playing music, they will be like, 'eh, sure anot they get so much?? cannot be la.. how can.. i don't think so la'.

but when this individual gets offered to join the band, he will qucikly change tune and be like, 'of coz la! im playin in a bar and getting paid few thousand $$ a month. i shld noe la, cos i month in month out i see my bank balance got amount go in waaaaaaaaaat'.

recently, i was offered to play drums for this band @ this place for $100 a day for 3 days, 3 sets lasting 45 mins.

another known person was paid $250 for 3 sets, lasting 90 mins each.

honestly, the payment is not capped to what this GNR ripoff band is getting or what this wannabe Offspring band is getting.

it boils down to one person. the one who called your band, asking for it's availability to perform at this particular location, at this particular time, X number of songs, etc.

if he quotes an amount that u guys are happy with, then thats all.

have a nice day everyone!

hardly ever log in, so whenever i log in, find myself looking over old threads. so my apology for putting my 2 cents to an old thread.

as an ex-club players (ex-lots-of-things-in-music-actually) i agree with some of the posters here, in regards to club pays. in the 80s and 90s, club musicians are well paid, comparatively. well, the good ones were. a band budget can go from 25k to even almost 40k per month. ask the old-timers, they might or might not reveal to you.

there are levels actually, lets call it pay grade. in a band, you have the normal players, band leader, music director and singers. singers will almost command higher pay from the pie, follow by band leader and music director and the instrumentalists. seniority is the name.

the reason i stopped performing was after awhile, it wasnt worth it anymore. you see the budgets decrease till what they are today. several factors contributed, namely economic situations and the onslaught of cheap foreign bands. i might as well do something else than just be a band boy. a lot of other sources of income in music if you are qualified and good enough.

be aware that most club contracts do not include benefits. no medicals, dental. cpf. so what you get paid as your salary is what you get. so, you have to manage your finance well as you might never know what gonna happen at the end of your contract. i've seen fellow musicians who wasted their pay on drinks and women and have nothing to show for their work. i went 6 months once without a club job.... boy, that was stressful.

having said that, i was paid very well when i started playing clubs after i graduated GIT. whats not to like? lol, free drinks (mostly), ladies (lol), people know you(you are famous) and you get to do what you like. some people kill for that, you know....lol

oh how i wish we have a union here to take care of musicians needs. then our lives would be so much better, comparatively.

if you can whole your own, practice your craft well... have good business sense, you will last long in the industry. pay-wise, don't expect too much though. after all, music is a passion, right? :)

What said by Djasli is very true!! I quit for other reason as I got sick of nite life. Hehehehe!! As I've said, I'm not too sure about the market range now a days, what stated was last offered price to our band.

Honestly, if I'm still active in the industry I wouldn't have reveal the payment too as it can be sensitive at times. Some people don't believe lah, some people got jealous lah, etc. Well, in life there are many people whose honest and there are also many people who like to create things out of nothing. But that's human!!

Hope I didn't offend anyone. Since, I'm happily working like normal people I take playing music as something leisure. If got paid...that's good. If to pay to play...forget it. If for charity...I'll play. I'm also someone's 'shadow'. I do reliefs for my friends who's still active in the industry.

Saluti!
