What guitar to get

Budget around $700. Playing alternative rock type of music- but not too metal- lol. Preferably a single cut guitar. Any recommendation?

If you're looking into singlecuts. I have no idea about the current prices but I do recommend ESP LTD's. Ibanez ART Series. PRS Singlecut.

They're around that range I think. Corts aren't that bad when it comes to budget.
My main opinion tho. Do try them and get a feel of the bridge and pickups before you get them. Make sure their action can go low too.

if you can raise your budget a little bit more, this one's recommended:

some stuff here if you can spare the time: http://theguitaraddict.blogspot.com/2008/05/prs-se-singlecut-trem.html

in the same price bracket, you'd do well to consider Jap Telecasters as well 8-)

you can buy some guitars which are around 300+ then go change the pickups.. Sometimes when you buy the guitar which is not cheap, the pickups will not be your liking... In My Opinion.

If you're playing Alternative Rock, I'd recommend LTDs, available from Davis Guitar (Peninsula Plaza), or Ibanezes from Swee Lee (Bras Basah, Sims Drive). Ibanez has a much wider range of guitars to choose from, or probably because Davis Guitar doesn't have a wide selection of LTD guitars.

Then all the more reason that you should test your guitar FIRST before purchasing. If you do not like the tone, look into purchasing a better one, because pickups are just one aspect of a guitar.

^ That is something many of us agree on, but many of us don't upgrade, lol.

If you're one who is inclined to go out and jam and perform, the amp will be something that you would often consider last, which is quite understandable. So a good guitar should be the next best priority. Pickups would mean squat if your guitar is crap.

another thing is why do ppl keep blaming their pickups once they dont like their tone? pickups dont contribute as much of ur tone compared to amps or pedals.

Agreed with the last 3 posts.

If you do not like a guitar's tone, dont buy it. Testing is v necessary.

If you upgrade one guitar, that guitar will sound good.

If you upgrade your amp, all your guitars plugged in will have a different sound.

Hmmmm........to be frank, no, Yamaha 15W isn't the amp of choice, are u looking at amps that already have efx built in or those which are basic bcos u already have pedals or other efx?

As for the guitar, for $700, u have a wide range of choices. Cort, Ibanez, Tokai, Edwards or perhaps a 2nd hand PRS come to mind. Alternatively, get a cheaper guitar like Timbre or Smash and upgrade the pickups. Depends on tonal preferences, Ibanez RG series have darker tones meant for metal-type songs, while Tokai, Edwards LPs have that fat midrange for rock, PRS is more balanced. There are of course, exceptions but go try out stuff first before buying. Cheerz!

yo sorry for the late reply guys.. was kinda busy with crazy school workload and activities.. erm.. There are chances that I'll be playing gigs and I dont think I will be able to ask them to get an amp just for my gigs rite... I'm still quite relatively new to guitar, so in general if I use different amp, does the sound that comes out will sound very different? or slightly? Since I'll be using a clean sound in the amplifier and use my own effects...
More reccomendation of guitar is welcome =) going to look forward CNY, to save up $ and get a new guitar =)
