Hey people, just wondering wad exactly is virtual wintage, the dimarzio pups?? Wad difference from normal single coils?? Wad techology is it?? rocket science?

Let me guide you how to use google...

a search on google

"Virtual vintage single coil" will get you http://www.google.com.sg/search?hl=en&q=virtual+vintage+single+coil&meta=

from here you'll learn that hey... virtual vintage is made by Dimarzio!

then you search "Dimarzio" and you'll get this http://www.google.com.sg/search?hl=en&q=Dimarzio+&meta=

so you click on the links to Dimarzio http://www.dimarzio.com/ and you go to pickups, singlecoils, humcancelling and you'll find info on this pickup.
if you go to the FAQ, Pickup FAQ and you can find some info on OEM and you'll some ibanez info but no virtual vintage

and then you can get more info directly from Dimarzio thro contact Email/Support and Technical support.

You can gain a massive amount of information overload thro these methods of information mining.

The other way is that we can be helpful and say perhaps Virtual vintage is the term Dimarzio use for pickups (single coils specifically) that are made and voiced like the ones of old fenders. For people who want that vintage strat tone. Some come with different voicings but mainly focussed toward older tones.

Those who use Virtual vintage pups can come in and also ask whyt he need to know? and then perhaps we can help this person who may be on the hut for some single coils.

i used to have the virtuals in my strat. 54s (n/m), heavy blues (b). they are real quiet.

the heavy blues in the bridge is higher in output, a bit thicker sounding but still retains the strat "twang", if there is such a thing. the 54s in the neck and middle is very "transparent" sounding. i can't say it is glassy, coz it is way too smooth... the in-between sound with n+m "approximate" the fender tone, but the m+b isn't that good.

i've got nothing bad to say abt them, but i switched my p/us back to the original fender ones as i feel it is not really a strat "sound". i guess when u loose the noise/hum, u loose some tone/character too. mayb just my ears...

lots of ppl swear by Kinmans if u wan noiseless vintage tones. never get to try them tho...

This statement is true. If you want a true single coil sound, go for true single coils. Even though there are humcancelling variants, do note that they imitate single coils, but are NOT exactly single coilish sounding.

of course we can be helpful and I'm being helpful by showing people the ways around the web.

like the old smelly and fishy saying goes...

"Give a man a fish and you'll feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you'll feed him for life."
