anyone's welcome friend .. SOFTies are one big family .. i'm sure mr soft will agree .. hee hee hee

I started out with the drums. And it really helps a lot in not just playing bass, but also the understanding of music as a whole.

Have also played around with the guitar, can't really play it well but learn how to play it just for the sake of composing.

And... does doing recording, mixing and sound editting count?

well...my first instrument was actually a guitar...i tot it was too common den i moved on to bass....i actually found it cool dat lyk a bass can actually lyk control the whole mood n stuff...lyk when u play w/o bass..sounds v empty....plus one of my frens showed me some jazz funk scaling thingy n i got totally hooked onto bass after dat....i oso play drums for my band...but i would play whichever dat is better for the band...yyea..

nice .. but we've gotta find a main instrument lah .. even though we learn other instruments .. there gotta kind of be like a main instrument that we focus on .. like i'm trying to learn the saxophone now .. i think i'll put the sax as my secondary instrument but the bass will still be my main one .. we can't be the jack of all trades but master of none .. doesn't really work that way ..

it's fun to post in the BASS forum. (smack me for stating the unnecessary)

drums, keys, electric / acoustic guitars, vocals... started with piano in primary school, got lazy to practice... quit in p6 lol
then restarted my "music" in sec3, friend dragged me for drum classes... i shot to intermediate but since i didnt have a set to regularly practice, i didnt get far...
electric / acoustic guitar, friend wanted a parter for class, got me in... i started with electric but prefered the wood tone of acoustic... quit before i managed to shred cuz i found out bass pwns...

picked up bass cuz nobody wanted to bass at first, but realised it was a pwnage instrument... it had so much!! u cud whack it and an awesome sweet sound comes out (later found out that's called slapping  )

WHY BASS? there are still so many things to dive into, there are so many bassists out there but one is not like the other. sheehan taps like mad, wooten has soul in his groove, stu hamm has the steadiness and thump of a 16 wheeler, myung has his speed and melodic patterns, etc. (just brought up a few names to emphasize that "BASS IS VERSATILE")

i even got so obsessed with bass, my band did a TWO BASSIST lineup for three gigs. awesome fun man!!

oh and i also do recording and teching, anything "sound crew" related. learning how to post-master now.

Um.. I've played cello, tuba, trombone, euphonium and flute for western music..

and dabbled in zhong ruan and gu zheng for chinese music.. not sure if anyone knows what these are though

and right now, i'm saving up for my bass :D

have always loved the lower instruments cause of the deep tones.. even my voice is low!

anyhow, i think music is just like the human anatomy.. the lower u go, the more fun u get

started at six. piano(BORING)
monotonous one sound white and black.
dropped it...
ONE DAY... i just decided i should do something apart from play com.
and taadaaa... bass the multi- sound instru came in...
groovy baby!~~

keyboards count,right?
I learnt a bit of acoustic/classical guitar.
Then I tried a little bit of electric lead.
Then the magical bass stepped into my life as I learnt the importance of it.
:)

i was the lyricswriter till the band kicked out the bassist and i played a lil guitar b4 that so it was an ez switch..i grew to love the extra clean sound the bass makes..

besides bass I only do a bit of guitar and am trying to slowly pick up drums...

the defining moment for me wanting to pick up bass was when watching Limp Bizkit (still an unashamed fan) on MTV a coupla years ago and admiring Wes Borland (still one my fave guitarists), I noticed Sam Rivers looking a lot more...powerful with his bass than Borland's puny guitar. And that was it, haha, I just knew I had to learn how to play it and get myself one.

I'm in a two-bassist band right now actually...we play glam-rock...the other guy handles the lows and I do the highs, something like a 'lead' thing. But it gets boring sometimes cos I just wanna get back in that low end, so I'm trying to get him to lemme switch around a bit...
