What are scales for?

you don't need to know what a scale is to play a scale

just like how you don't need to know music theory to play an instrument

just like how you don't need to know how to write and read english to be able to speak english

but does it help to know? of course. once music starts getting more advanced and complicated, it will help a great deal

you can learn words of a certain language and memorise sequences of them, but you can't have conversations without knowing some grammar

the grand daddy of scales for rock and roll is Pentatonic Minor.

Major and minor are the Do Re Mi.

Bro, I advise you not to generalize. Pentatonic minor does not make up all of rock music and pentatonic minor is a scale derived from none other than the minor scale itself.

And no, major and minor are not your do re mi. >.<

get the book for dummies! help me understand quite a lot for the basic scales and chords. i used to know NTH abt scales. u will start to see the similar chords used in many songs.
