Weird DS-1: Auto-on?? help!

Hey there, I've just purchased my DS-1 second-hand, but the condition is like brand new. Anyway, I notice that once I plug in the Input, it automatically turns on, switching from "Off(unplugged) mode to On(distortion) mode"!
But once I press the pedal again, it turns off and returns to normal order.

Oh, I remember while exiting the mrt, I hit the right side of the DS-1 agains the metal pole, and there was pretty loud *PING* sound.
Could this have caused the problem? Everything else is fine tho, all the controls.
Surely this "orange tank" could withstand a knock??

This is very wierd. It's not THAT big a problem, but it's gonna be irirtating using it durings jammings and gigs.

Has this happened to any of you guys before? Any solutions?

My MT2 is also the same. Once plugged in, its on.

u use adaptor is it?cos my pedals act like that wit adapter...or mayb u unplug the adapter without clickin the pedal off

i think it's meant to be like that. cause the pedal can only be turned on when a cable's in the input.

I dont use, but maybe the guy who sold me did? Could I find an adapter, plug it in, turn it off, then plug out? haha. I'll try it when i can!

Hmm, I've never experienced this before.. Not with my OS-2, or my friends DS-1..

It's the design of the pedal. Some of the other Boss pedals (and versions) are designed to be auto-on by default. In any case, it's not much of an issue.

every boss pedal is like tt i suppose, juz like the line 6 tonecores when they have batteries and the input jack is plugged in..

The boss pedals use a flip flop circuitry to turn on and off the effect. Flip flops are inherently random in their default state, so unless purposely designed to be on in a certain state, they are random. Some are on by default, some are off. As far as I know anyway.

yeah I have to agree with theblueark here. it doesnt only happen to new boss pedals. my SG-1 and SD-1 both auto on when I power up the adapters.

however, is it really an issue to be worried about :? ?
