Waves Convolution Reverb - the dongle phenomenon

hi all, just bought the Waves IR Convolution Reverb and I must warn you that after spending $500 for a program that you download from the net(Waves didn't even bother to send me a proper box)..

I still have to separately buy a USB dongle (ilok) in order for it to work. Wah lau. And Waves didn't even bother to explain all of these 'extra steps' in their website, so it sort of gave a shock to many clients.

Many companies are jumping onto this PACE ilok thing which really messes up a lot of legit users out there. Anyone with similar problems with dongles (only the USB ones please), please share yeah?

I thought I would share this with you, in case anyone here wants to buy a Waves reverb plugin, or anything new from Antares, or Steinberg, or..

cheers

frankly..this is why many people will continue to use pirated software. much less hassle.
there are tonnes of complaints about dongles, taking up valuable room/ports, causing other problems etc. with the amount of programs/plugins being used nowadays..just imagine dealing with 5,10 seperate dongles.

plus, its a funny word itself. dongle dongle dongle.

Dongles are a real pain. In reality, almost nothing can stop piracy. All these copy protection mechanisms only cause problems for the honest legitimate users - and we are the ones who suffer in the end. So if nothing stops piracy, why then create all these things? Yes, one can argue that if there's no copy protection at all, piracy will be worse. But really, how true is that? All legitimate users (like us) will always buy original programs no matter whether there is copy protection or not; all people who download pirated stuffs will always get pirated programs no matter what since programs always get cracked despite the best copy-protection method.

So why copy-protection???? It doesn't stop piracy; it causes pain for the honest end-users...

Oh, back to dongles. One is enough (for my Logic). For me, I'll avoid any programs that resort to using dongles as their copy-protection.

I do agree that dongle can be a hassle at time,

However, for protools and waves and all other RTAS, AS plug-ins, one dongle is enough. All the license reside in 1 dongle so multiple dongles is not necessary.

However, for users of other multitrack/sequencing software, i do agree that it can be messy at times.
