ur discussing this like its so casual :o

haha.. u should see how intense we can get when u discuss it online... but, we hope to make this a reality.. a soft jam studio perhaps???

Its both harsh and pointless to try to dampen the enthusiasm of youths. And its sad that most musicians are at the end of their prime then they realise they should've spent on acquiring "assets" instead of what they've been doing all their life, acquiring "liabilities".

overcast : you're quite right on that, although to look at it from a more positive, long term point of view, it's all about "starting the ball rolling" and then passing it on to the next younger generation also heheh. there'll be a time for us try do something to inspire someone else later. What good (except for him to recover back his loss) is it if kerfei just fold up and sold off the equipment, end the lease quietly and leaving the hard way option for us to fend for ourselves. of course, this day and age we are "pampered" compared to the people who started out. so I guess we should prove we are at least capable of keeping it goin' on, on an upwards curve right ? btw. I'm in my early 20s, I guess I can be considered in the "we" section..

haha.. chill la blueprint.. i feel it coming too.. i'm 19 this year.. feeling like an old fart these days...

Some points to consider for prospective takers..

The likelihood is that Kerfei has another about 12 months of lease to go and according to conventional lease agreements, he has to continue fulfilling the rest of the tenancy or otherwise pay in full the balance period and leave after spending money to reinstate the premises to its original condition, unless it is otherwise.

What is the true rental of the premises, excluding the equipment.

Is it going to be an assignment of lease or Kerfei is only granting a licence to prospective takers?

Are the equipment are paid in full or is there still lingering instalments?

Are there a better alternatives?

How would a partnership of several people committed to paying a total of $1800/- per month agree on damages to existing equipment?

How would the partnership address question of possible dropouts with the rest having to make good the total amount?

This is not a dampener to Kerfei, which I believe he is making a genuine offer. However, due diligence is needed for young people who may need a different angle of thought.

heartrock, u've made some pretty good point.. mayb u could be a consultant for us?? we need experienced ppl like u guys to aid and assist us on our journey...

err. hey guys? pls take a triple read on what heartrock said. something I didn't want to be involved cos 1) I don't like to be chained down to "1 studio 1 location 2) don't want to go through all these partnership politics again heheh. yes 2 brains function better than 1. but making decision would be an almost impossible challenge if both brains are on different wavelengths and refuse to compromise.

10¢ worth

Partnership politics will always be cumbersome and no two persons can think alike all the time. Indeed it is worth the while looking at alternatives before deciding what is good, and who knows maybe this is not the right time to jump into anything yet despite the many available alternatives.

hahah yea man, I've learned that the hard way. a cross between losing a partner and losing a longtime friend.. or both.

To all concerned: Leasing of jamming/recording studio

To all concerned, thank you for your overwhelming concern and interest in leasing my studio.
I am asking $1800 a month, near boat quay , near clarke quay mrt .
Full set recording equipment/ amps/ vocals/recording mics.

I have been in this biz for 3 years. I dun earn to drive a BMW, neither do i make huge losses. i have the recording gear , but my sound technician found a job full time. The earning potential for recording is really up to u. Take a $40 /hr or lesser and u do your sums.

For the recording side, be realistic and aim for a 1000 to 2000 profit.
Some pple sell nasi lemak and earn peanuts, some earn 10k a mth.
So, only when u try, and if ur service is gd, equipment gd, can earn a modest living.

I opened the studio coz i love to jam. I love alternative music, and i wan my own place. My drummer , Mr Paul Tan ,and best pal passed away. If he's around, we wld love to run the place forever.

I wan to give other pple, n i noe these guys may not have the 20 to 30 k to start their own place. But, u better have some savings or partners

Even if u do not want to do a biz. Keep it for yourself and ur band n jam to improve.

To all. thank u , contact me , i shortlisting potential pple , wan responsible pple n passion. if this is not ur cup of tea, wld appreciate if u offer constructive n encouraging words. thks
