wall mounted guitar hangers

ok so i bought wall mounted guitar hangers. since the wood of our axes are oh-so-sensitive to the environment, is there any particular spot which i should/shouldn't hang?

like maybe, 10 cm below aircon isn't safe, opposite aircon is better than next to aircon etc.

WEll im HIGHLY AGAINST hanging up you axes on these hangers, reason the climate,it causes havoc due to first the humidity, its so humid your guitar tends to warp in this weather, yea say that im wrong but when your talkin about a 4 K axe,i put mine in its case with these silica beeds or whatever their called, and also its hard to maintain string life if you leave it in the open cause if your in a room with an aircon and singapore being as hot as it is,the dew point causes your guitar to get cold then when you switch it off and the heat gets into contact with the guitar all that dew like on a leaf in the morning, just causes your guitar to do strange things and strings to go out fast, and DONT PLACE it under the aican, mine just for some stupidly odd reason started leaking and i was watching a movie in my TV-rrom came back it was a huge puddle, imagine that comin in contact with your gutar and everythin in it,,

well all that unless you have a room which is climate controlled,or you witch on your aircon, then when your leaving gradually lower the temp to allow your guitar to climatise, the only place i see hanging your guitar is in a temperate country where the air is muchh more dryer,i do it in my country in denmark and cause its much more of a hospitible climate for the guitar i hang it up,hope that helps

I'm going to keep following this thread. I've been actually planning to buy guitar hangers and hang my guitars to save some space. Thinking twice after reading what Shadow said.

well im just sharing my opinion, ive also wanted to hang my guitars in my home here in SG but after considering some of my guitars being left in the open it really **** your guitars up,thats why everytime even though i hate it,i pack my guitar in its case and give the strings some DR strings polymer thingy, whihc enhances the string life and leavin the guitars in its case with the silica beeds thats absorb some of the moisture residing around your guitar its makes for a better guitar experience overall

Sounds troublesome to pack the guitar in the case and wipe strings. When you want to play it, you have to take it out again. Whatever for? The love for your guitar.

What's the DR string polymer thingy?. Maybe I shall give it a go. :D

dude if i dared id sleep with ym guitar, the only reason i dont is cause im afraid i do somethin to it:twisted:haha well thinking on a logical side, the DR thing is..*goes and looks inside case*ahh..DR-Extra String Life,Liquid Polymer Coating ;) its comes in a small bolle which is white but has the DR label on it which is yellow, red and black in colour

Only you will know the outcome of your guitar . Haha. Thanks for checking it out bro. It's time for me to TLC my guitar :-D.

i don't really agree of not to hang the guitars and the humidity thing here in singapore.

Humidity
first of all, get it right that even singapore being a small country we have certain places which are higher in humidity then others. Most of those places that are bad for guitars are actually where the richer people would stay. By saying most, i dun mean all. The common places i know that is bad for guitar are.. marine parade, bedok, pasir ris, jurong and etc.. basically along the coastline and bukit timah area where the vegetation is just next to you.

I stay in AMK(Ang Mo Kio) and have no problem hanging my guitars on my wall.I've done that for at least 6-7years and some of those guitars i rarely take it down to even strum. Dust is the only bad thing that will happen to my guitar and nothing else.

Warping Issue
If you tell me that by hanging the guitar it'll help on warping the neck, i strongly disagree. The amount of damage is infact greater when you buy stands like this

This is especially true when the guitar is supported at a tilted angle and not 100% straight. The support point will allow gravity to pull the middle part downwards over time. If i were to use this kinda stand, i'll normally adjust the neck support to the lowest possible height so as nt to add any possible stress. If you don't like wall hangers, i'll strongly go for this kinda guitar stand.

These are ok too because they don't stress the guitar on the weakest side but instead they rest it on the stronger side. Try bending your neck while playing this way, most probably you cant change the tune like you can doing the tommy emmanuel or billy sheehan way. But i don't recommend for long term usage.

So why is the wall hanger a good method to display but not warp you guitar neck? Simple, they hold at the top of the neck and the body is hang straight down. Gravity can't pull side ways and it's simply letting gravity to keep your guitar in the straight neck position.

I'm speaking from my experience with working with all these guitar stands and i've seen their results. Hope it helps.

i guess you dont understand my point of what i wrote,god....spend a little more time tryin to understand what people write so you can reply in a proper manner, hey im with you about the humidity thing, haha but the thing that got me was that richer estates have more humidity ratings, guess 'em rich people been usin 'em sauna's ya hahahehehe

yeah man, i agree. that was uncalled for. gr3y was just sharing some tips.
now i understand why some experienced softies prefer to keep their mouths shut.
what do they get for sharing experience...

What Gr3y said is useful, I'll keep that in mind. But for me I just prefer to just wipe it with Dunlop Ultraglide. Doesn't help to STOP rusting, but keeps the strings smooth even when it is black as hell.

Other than that, be careful about placing your guitar on the wall though...must get ready big mattress under it if you love your guitar as much as ShadowchildCOBHC.

I use a floor stand anyways, might change to wall mounting cause it takes quite alot of space to place it on the floor.

I remember a softie posting a picture of his collection with several wall mounted guitars in the back ground, according to him he hasnt experienced any problems yet..

I recently bought wall mounts too, but haven't hooked them up to experience with :D

I guess it depends on how the wood of the guitar is treated as well. I agree that humidity and tempt changes can be bad for the guitar, but i nv had extremely bad experience with my guitars. N i place them in the open in an aircon room, and my flat gets evening sun, so the walls get warm as well.

My worse mistake was to leave my guitar in the car under the sun, forgot to take it out when i went hm late. THx goodness its a cheapo acoustic guitar.

Ah! Elias!. I remembered about you when superpotato mentioned that. :D
Care to share your experiences with the threadstarter?.

Well, I think a dose of simple logic will do for deciding where to hang the guitars. Avoid areas where you think people will move about frequently, say...near entrance of your room or corridors, etc. Yeah, I think avoid directly putting under the air-cons since there's a chance that water might leak. If you wanna be extra cautious, perhaps don't mount it right above your bed just in case things go wrong *lol* For me, I happened to have a double-deck bed in which the upper deck is not used, so I mount my hangers above it, so in case should anything happens, the upper deck can cushion the guitars (though unlikely they'd fall off lah). Basically, that's it! :)

Don't worry, should I spot any problems or encounter any disasters that befall on my guitars, I will post and you guys will be the first to know!
