volume knob issue

Hey softies. Im using a swing les paul. Its a pretty awesome guitar. But the problem i face is the volume knob for both the treble and rhythm pickups. When i slowly turn the knob from max to low(10 to 1) the volume does not slowly fade away. Yhe volume just became silent when it reached the minimun volume.

I am not really sure where the problem is but i think its the volume pots or something? Can someone help me? Thanks

Hi bro, it's not a 'problem', just remove the cavity cover & look if the pots installed are the A or B type. If you are unsure, snap a pic & post it here...

A-audio tapered
B-linear tapered

thisis a good read http://www.geofex.com/Article_Folders/potsecrets/potscret.htm

basically a linear tappered pot increases resistance proportionally to how much to turn the pot. however to a human ear, the difference in "loudness" does not reduce by say half when you turn a linear pot halfway down

theres where audio tappered pots come in. when u turn the pot halfway it basically means the volume drops almost by half

but this is only for the clean signal, when you use distortion, by rolling the volume knob around you dont actually observe much changes in the volume but rather the amount of gain you get

Guitars at this price-point usually come equipped with electronics at substandard tolerances. Replace them with your standard CTS or Alpha audio pots and you should be good to go.

it is possible that there are some values printed on the knob indicating the logarithm curve of the knob, are there some numbers there?
