Voice sucks, how?

Hey everyone, im feeling really helpless about this, I have a very very ugly voice... :( Its not that i'm a vocalist or anything, and im not trying to act humble or anything, im serious, i have an ugly voice. Is there anything I can do to improve it?

I can sing in tune, and in key generally, but the sound of the voice itself really disgusts me...its sounds half-broken(im a guy), and whiny at times. And it is sometimes accented by a trademark ugly-tone. Its affecting me pretty bad...to the extent that I feel disgusted hearing my voice when singing in church sometimes. :(

And lastly, for those who need to be further convinced, my mum herself told me that i need to improve on the sound of the voice when singing. You know, mummys will always be the only person in the world who thinks their child is "handsome" when they are in fact ugly. So even my mum, the last person in world who would have a chance of thinking i sound ok, thinks its not nice. She recommended me to go for singing classes, which of course, i am too embarrassed to, cos I dun want someone scrutinising my ugly singing voice! how?

hey, how bout this, i try to post a recording of my voice if i can, then u tell me what precisely i can do? im aiming to become a vocalist of a band or anything, just something "normal" sounding at least? haha...i think it'd be less embarrassing for ppl to scrutinise the voice when not looking at me face to face...yea?

You're not that bad really. I'm not a singer so I can't help you with vocal techniques etc. All I can say is maybe you can learn how to sing from the diaphragm instead of your throat. It can change and bring out your voice more.

Maybe singers in here can help you with this :D

I can only listen up till "welcome to the hotel california". You sound okay wad. And actually, what you hear is different from how you sound. My voice sounds different when I hear it myself, but when i record it and playback. it sucks.

hmm...thanks for trying to encourage me. How to sing from the diaphragm instead ah? i also find that sometimes my voice get really "wavery" and i cant curb it...=x

your voice is ok wad... i've heard worst... haha.. anyway, your voice have some kinda rusty feel to it... sounds good if you sing some songs.. like those tt need deep voice.. lol

anyway, singing is nothing that cannot be improved on yea?.. haha

work hard at it~

hmmm.. what yoou need is more 'push'.. sorry if i say this.. but the first image that comes into my mind is that you're playing while half sleeping.. you have the rasp, which is good.. but needs more push.. as in more power..

you try already then tell us?
who knows you might sound like ....... James blunt... or homer simpson..

i think wearing braces does help too.

try to sound more enthusiastic in your singing. your pitch is good. but i can tell that the sound is quite well, dont take this too seriously, but its a little weak.. try adding more power by focusing your strength on the abdomen area (to be able to project your voice more from the diaphragm). This way you can control your sound, volume, power, pitch and vibrato better.
Also, try to pronounce your words more clearer so that the voice will sound more precise. hope this helps :p
btw your voice isnt bad at all. just need to learn how to use it.

if you want some really good tips, try going to musician forums.. forgot the exact url but its on mxtabs.net.. pretty nice guys with loads of experience like the merkaba guy..

oooh...thanks a lot guys for the help n encouragement, will try to work on it, using the advice u pros have given.

Throat surgery sounds scarey though...they got to slit your throat to perform it i suppose? 8O later end up with a prosthetic head then how?
