Hi guys! I guess this is a very oftenly asked question! But wanna hear your opinions!
I intend to pick up lessons to strengthen my vocals especially sustaining notes and etc.
So, I'm thinking is it better to learn from a school or learn it from some of the private teachers here.
If anyone knows of any vocals class/school that's pretty good, please let me know! :)
Budget wise, cause I'm still a student, so prolly it would be a lil hard on me!

The best teacher I've seen so far in Singapore is Daniel Singh. He charges $75 for 30 minutes or $150 for 1 hour. I used to take lessons from a cheaper teacher, but he wasn't able to teach me.

You can read all about Daniel and the SLS school of singing here :)

The best teacher is your cd player - just play the cd and sing along with the songs. Try to copy what u hear 1st before attempting to put ur own touch to it

save $$$$$

this is so... fake

hmm, i dont get what you're trying to hint but obviously theres no hint of commercialising around here yup.

anw, i was seriously considering picking sls lessons from the instructor alice? at least its a lil more wallet friendly.

fgl, my main influences is paramore, hehe. not much of problem with their song. but, i have my own band and we're writing our originals. i don't wanna sound like my music influences and also I wanna find my own voice/sound/xfactor. oh ya, and esply during recording, my own "skills" totally shows. thats why im trying to have somebody to guide me.
but so far what i get is recommendations of sls lessons, which is pretty much convincing?

Paramore eh? Their singer takes lessons from Singing Success, and the head of that school was originally in SLS.

I've heard people saying that SS allows more variety in singing coordinations than SLS does, giving more possibilities. And that while Brett Manning learnt a great deal from SLS, he wanted to take things another direction, and so he started his own school.

Anyway, here is http://www.singingsuccess.com

As for me I'm happy enough learning SLS. Only once I master that am I going to consider other singing co-ordinations like the SS ones or the CVT (complete vocal technique).

I suggest trial and error. I never really learn how to sing, but as long as you feel and sound comfortable with the band members and audience, it is good enough imo. If you really want to brush up on on vocals, then it's more useful that you be a soloist, although singing very well is a bonus to any band..:D

Hi TS,
I'm looking for a coach too. But I think i found mine, yet she's not avail, at least not currently :(
Find a coach that not only help you musically but also emotionally and mentally. I chose to work with that specific coach is because I worked with her before and found it really comfortable. Although it's only 13mths, I learned alot from her and got a breakthrough~

Anyway, I was going ard looking at youtube and found singing success. Quite useful, really =) But now just sucking free youtube clips and waiting for my coach to be avail.

Hope you find your coach soon!

**and for those who thinks coach's not important, that's cool, but know that even up till now many professionals still have their vocal coach (we're talking about Celine Dion, Mariah Careey, etc). If you're not professional but SERIOUS and going to attempt album cutting, get a professional vocal coach. It's a must! (haha i don't have a coach yet, that's why I so cui :P )
