P.O, i perfer catchier riffs. technique and speed is not my dose...but a balance of speed and song writing counts a lot more.

its harder to write a good song than to compose yr OWN technically-impressive piece..some bands just piece togetehr their impressive solo parts to form a song.....again its in my P.O lar.... so wat if keyboardist/producers (think Threshold/X japan F.I.R keyboards/piano producer) can never play as well as the elitely skilled.? at least poeple rememebr the SONG ..one whole song and not just the solo... i believe once u can master the song writing thingy , u can slowly master the technique..but overindulgence in technique and u tend to write songs than are forcefully merged in solo parts just to show off yr skil,, happened too many bands to too many "top" progressive bands liao..its getting harder and harder to appreciate them....initially i was blown away too but now its kinda like dryyyy...its the same formula over and over again..

think this guy have it, but seldom mentiond in this forum leh....but some softies definately know how to appreciate him!

the F>I.R producer is good too man(chen jian ning), very good arranger, probably imported his squence into the Korg triton LE while he performs.so far i saw him live twice in spore,at westmall and marina a week ago..pretty sure no backing CD track while they played.. .well no syth lead solos, but he play some nice, fast but not too classically showoff in yr face strings solos like toumas of nitewish...enuff to send the crowd wild also.....who needs super speed and crazy fingering..?

tats why i prefer F.I.R and artension,evergrey nightwish,mats olausson to d.t and symphony X,sonata artica...its balance over over-hyped technique..
i'm toking about songs in general before someone start blasting me bout "well they have slow BALANCED ballads TOO wat u prejudiced genre-progressive snob "..well i love sonata artica's tallulah...compared to the rest in general...

enuff crap..heres the link again..check out the rest of the keyboardists guys!

its not all maksim and rudess okieeee....
start blasting me already...

Just to add on to the list of other keyboardists that i listen to and would like you guys to check them out (if u guys havent already lol) are:

The keyboardist from Emerson, Lake & Palmer band (ELP)
Rick Wakeman from Yes
Jens Johansson from Stratovarius (nice lead sound)
Janne Warman from Children of Bodom (his lead sound is closely modeled after Jen's lead)

As for pianist, check out Chick Corea if u like jazzy/bossanova piano style.

actually chick corea is more of a fusion jazz player than bossanova. i'm just saying this in the context of ensuring that people don't go expecting he's another diana krall or something.

check out the chick corea elektrik band. it's got john pattituci on bass, scott henderson on guitar and dave weckl on drums i think.

I kinda agree that super fast playing etc is not really needed. I mean i listen to X japan FIR stuff, the whole song on the overall is pretty decent and thats what attracts me. I myself is a keyboardist/pianist but i cant really play until so pro even though i play quite long liao.. but whenever i compose a song, i try to make the overall sound good and not too technical with urber solos lol..
