violin like sound?

Neck pickup. Roll off tone.

Try that.

Otherwise, BB preamp pushed with a Tubescreamer... and neck pickup.

You can also do it the Eric Johnson way. Fuzz face pushing a Marshall PLexi. Must be a 68 plexi... Fuzz Face must have Duracell batteries, and you cannot use the normal screw to hold the battery in. You got to use Cabletie.

Try this for size.

Neck pickup and tubescreamer desnt strike me as having alot of gain. You'll want a tubscreamer and another pedal the tubescreamer can push. I have heard good results with a modofied DS-1. Randolf mod btw. Not sure of the name. But it had a mid bump.

If you're trying to cover EJ, you dont have to nail his tone. Just mak sure nothing is too fizzy, put echo on it to taste and then get the phrasing.

Phrasing is... the way u choose your notes.. the style in which you phrase the notes.

EJ has some really interesting phrases utilising some very technical methods like string skipping and triplets.

Get some of that down and you'll be 3/4 on the way.
