Vintage vs. Modern: Sound

Hey SOFTies!

This is an opinion post! Post what YOU think right here!
Recently I've been browsing through guitar reviews and I've realized people describe their guitar tones (mostly cleans) between Modern and Vintage. Vintage Cleans and Modern Cleans? Different EQ maybe? Or maybe certain special characteristics present?

So the few questions for all of you out there, what is the difference between vintage and modern cleans?

Also, whats the nicest guitar for cleans to you =)

I don't know if it's true or not but I tend to associate a warmer, thicker sound as being vintage and a clearer, brighter sound as being modern. Best guitar for cleans? I'd say Gibson Les Paul Standard. Plugged into a Gretsch tube amp, the tone was simply brilliant... I've always preferred humbuckers for the thick and lush sound and so far I haven't found anything that sounded as lush as that Les Paul. First time I've played, touched and heard gold, as far as I'm concerned.

Then Voxes and Fenders are modern? Haha.

To the OP: IMO there's no such thing as a 'vintage' or 'modern' clean as they are not adjectives to describe sound. Likewise for weird "adjectives" such as chewy, spongy, woody, juicy, etc.

When I think of vintage and modern tones (overdriven tones), here I what I think of:

Vintage: higher mids, open, raw distortion sound (guns n roses, acdc etc) I also tend to think of Marshalls amplifiers.

Modern: scooped mids, tight sound distortion (most metal bands, dream theater etc) I also tend to think of Mesa boogie, fender amps.

Just my opinion.
