Victoria Concert hall, Esplanade Theatre, Kallang Theatre

wow ..if most places have to sell tix at $12 ....like this "atas" place ...how much tickets gonna cost man?

Haha, Wont be much. Roughly max $20. Just doing a survey for a friend. Hopefully you guys can help me out with the statistics. =)

IC - well i'd definately like to play there (provided no need to sell tix) ...just like my heroes Clapton playing Royal Albert Hall or SRV at Carnegie Hall. Shiok ... these kinda places got the BEST accoustics ....

wa.. victoria concert hall ah..
thought thats the place for classical music.. those symphony kind..
u must make sure u have like..1200 friends then u can have a concert there loh.. ticket price u can set your own.. but i think $10 is the normal standard price..
u have to book the hall in advance.. like..6 months man.. cuz that place is always busy..

VCH is quite a good place lah.. love the reverb in the air.. feels very good..

i think one of the things in question here is whether or not the bands playing would mind a seated audience..but i doubt it'd be an issue. i've been to performances at the esplanade and kallang theatre where the audience does get up on their feet, so yeah, i doubt bands should mind playing at these oft-touted as classical venues.

I think it's important to keep in mind the standard and status of the venues. Professionalism and experience are benchmarks and from what I've seen at "$12 ticket shows", most bands are just simply not up to par for venues of such standard.

Let's be honest?

As much as I would like to perform at venues such as these, I wouldn't allow myself to play at a venue like that because, from what I've seen from bands playing at Esplanade (not Powerhouse), I am nowhere near comparison.

A seated crowd is not my concern in this situation.

I most surely would like to play at such a recognised and established venue. Singapore crowds are pretty much dead anyway, so them seating down wouldn't make much of a difference.

Appreciate the feedbacks, at least now i can give my friends some advice. Do you think bands will support big bands that are playing? Or should i say attend performance by other bands.

of course, if big bands are playing there will be surely be enough fans and supporters. However the cost is a big factor.

I've played at all three venues before, but with a symphonic band though. Thing is, the acoustics of the venues are so scarily amazing (esp the Esplanade halls, the rest are just decent), if a particular band isn't that good (no offence intended whatsoever), the audience (prolly the more musically-inclined ones, and of course musicians) would know right away. Mistakes, technical faults and more would be pretty darn obvious.

Especially since I kinda agree to a certain extent that Singaporean crowds are kinda dead (less cheering/jeering/etc.), everything would sound a lot clearer.

There are bands that sound better recorded than live too, so playing in such venues would highlight their faults. (Eg: Saosin @ Incubus concert; Fort Canning Park. The vocalist was so bad compared to their recordings)

Just my 0.02, please do correct me wherever I'm wrong.

sg crowds are kinda dead? it just depends on what kinda music u play really. and what kinda gigs u have gone for.

and also, how much alcohol is involved.

i've played in victoria theatre and kallang theatre before...
but not esplanade...
of the 2,i somehow prefer kallang theatre...
i duno...maybe at that time the atmosphere was just right...
both places brings back great memories though... : )

the best sound & acoustics i have ever expirienced was when I played in the Esplande main hall - superb ...
