will a regular big muff like this sound nice with a bass guitar?

i've never tried the NYC big muff pi but i used to own the little big muff, which is supposed to be the big muff in the XO enclosure. some people say the LBM has better bass response. i don't know but i dont buy that. anyway, the LBM sounded really good on the bass. retained the lows pretty well; it was basically my ticket into a world of fuzz. but it doesn't sound so good on high 'sustain' (gain) settings, which is understandable since you are compressing the tone, so i wouldn't say it's the most versatile of fuzzes.

You'd be better off with the one in the picture you posted in this other thread here, which is actually the Bass Big Muff (BBM) (just like it reads in the image) and not the Russian, with the switch at bass boost or the dry.

The most recent incarnation of the Russian (there are older green ones, "Green Russians") is by Sovtek and, referred to as the "Black Russian", looks like this:

I have a black russian, I feel that it loses some of the lows on a bass. Have not had the chance to try the BBM. The black is also discontinued so you may have trouble finding one, whilst the BBM is still around. You can check out sound samples here.

Todays Big Muffs are very bass heavy and trebly. Heeps of sustain if you ask me. Muffs are incredibly scooped in the mix. You might sound good at home but in a full band setting, you'll probably disappear..
