Upcoming Drum Clinics/Concerts :: Oct '08

hehe... gd to meet u ryu ! :D

just so that you know.. mike mangini was born 1963 (age 45) and marco minneman is born 1970 (age 38 )

so u have an idea of how much progress marco made at such a young age.

i thought they are both inspiring in their own ways. i thought mangini was more engaging with the audience while marco was more soft spoken. then again marco was sick (had to go hospital right after the clinic!)

age is just a number, some of us take longer than others.

as a comparison, art blakey led his first band when he was well into his thirties, elvin jones was 32 when he played for john coltrane's giant steps, and tony williams was all of 18 years when he first joined miles davis group !

as long as we all get there in the end, its all that matters.

more drum clinics please !!!

cheers

if anyone comes across the clip of him marco playing to the movie..please post it up. haha it was the best of both days, for me that is

I wish i could go for both bt i can oni attend to Mike Mangini clinic as i had to commit to work on thu....dammit....

Bt my fren, hu went for both the clinic said that Marco's clinic was better....making me even more sad....

Haha!! It's ok, U can catch his clinic next year. Or U can search online if they have marco clinic in other country.

Wow, didn't realize that Marco was 7 years younger than Mike. Thank you plainsman for pointing out my error so kindly, I believe normal forum-er would scold me like hell already haha.

Of course both Marco Minnemann and Mike Mangini are both inspiring in their own ways, I can only say some of the techniques that Marco show was inspired by Buddy Rich and Terry Bozzio.

By the way, I own an instruction video (3VCD) and Space Ship Live DVD which Marco played as the drummer so I'm willing to share if anyone is interested. Just PM me. Actually he could have been more engaging if he wasn't sick.

It's so knowledgable of Plainsman, you even know the Biographies of Art Blakey, Elvin Jones and Tony Williams. Indeed, age is just a number but I just can't help being upset for starting drumming at the age of 18 which is extremely later than those famous drummers. Some drummers don't mind when will they achieve the goal but I'm the exception.

zack11, I have 3 friends also couldn't make it to Marco's clinic and are looking forward so you've got company, haha.

I wish the organiser can release the recorded Marco performance in DVD format soon, friends can't wait.

Hi All,

Thoroughly enjoyed the 2 clinics! And I really loved the Pearl Reference kit Mangini played on...the finish is crazy! Got money I buy!!!

Ryu:-

Really...age is just a number...doesn't matter how late you start...trust me I know!! haha.

Just spend your energy focusing on how to get there not when you'll be getting there. You'll enjoy the learning journey better.

Cheers!

Two very meaningful quotes.
hahaha.

"age is just a number"...*keeps repeating to self*

Anyway, i PM-ed you weeks ago with regards to sending my little brother to you for drumming lessons. He wants to have formal lessons but he told me he's scared and not ready yet - he's a very shy and reticent boy lah.
But I can really see he's scared. haha

So I think I will have to give him some time to be "less scared" and he will let me know when he's ready to see you!:p

You're friendly right?
What am I saying? hahaha
