What's plywood? Layers of wood? But what wood? MIM Fender bodies are sometimes 5 to 7 blocks put together with a veneer on the top and bottom. also macham plywood structure...

I think when there's tone, there's tone... Hell, I've played guitars made of weird materials that sound great.

Bamboo is very hard (because of the thick bark) and very compact by nature. It's also quite porous because of high water content, and excellent as floatation woods if sealed properly. The bark usually plays a part in there. But strip the bark, and the wood is rigid. So I'd imagine this to be a little bright, and quite vibration reistant, which means it doesn't absorb vibrations. (Engineers call this low internal damping factor).

Paired with a nice fat set of humbuckers, I'd say this wouldn't sound too bad.

But First Act is about cheap mass guitars,. so I'd think this one isn't expected to sound like a Dreskill.

haha pehaps it may sound good who knows,
but imho, a geetar has to be made of wood la. i dont know why, but i just dont fancy alternative materials.

not sure.. but i remember reading it in guitarplayer mag a few months back that these are really good bang for buck guitars (in the UK perhaps), and great for mods

Haha.. Matt Pike from High on Fire has a First Act and apparently he loves it a lot. According to the website, the prices seem really affordable but it's probably in British Pounds?

yes it is.. Hopefully someone will bring them in.. haha. I'm actually interested in seeing what the AXL Eldorado has to offer.. got good reviews from guitarworld..

About unique tonewoods... How about meranti? Seriously I like the tone of this wood. My Yamaha acoustic has Meranti back and sides, with a spruce top, and it sounds just sweet. Warm, mellow, and balanced out with some brightness from the spruce top. My only gripe with Meranti is that it doesn't look all that nice..

Malaysian Jelutong. John Suhr calls it Mamywo, an exotic mystery wood......and he charged an arm and leg for it! ;)

Malaysian Mystery Wood to be exact.

and yep, James Tyler, not John Suhr.

It's a pretty good tonewood imo...I find it adds a certain crispness to the overall tone, different from Alder-bodied Tylers I've tried.

I remember Meranti from those days too. But goes back to the point if it sounds good, probably doesn't matter what it is made of. Tone is pretty subjective to start with...
