hey guys, just wondering what tubes do you guys use in your amps? and where do you find shops which sell them? interested in changing my valbee's china-made tubes.

Burlington Square, beside Sim Lim Square. There are a few shops selling tubes.

what kind of tubes do they sell at burlington square?

and what brand of tubes do you guys use? i'd probably try to get a svetlana 12ax7 and a EH 6L6 so would they have those at burlington?

for preamp tubes you really have to try and listen to the different brands and see which ones you prefer. Sovtek and Svetlana are 'ok'. You might want to spend a bit more for the NOS american tubes like RCA or GE. Well Audio Lab at Burlington has them I think. You might check with the auntie at Martin Audio which is just next to Well Audio lab. I have a Westinghouse 5751 in V1 position of my twin reverb.. its very very smooth and articulate.

Don't know of any other tube selling shops in SG.

They sell some Sovtek, Svetlanas, EH, etc... Im using 12ax7 & 6L6 for my tube amp.

Valbee uses power tubes too???

yeah valbee uses the same, 1 12ax7 pre and 1 6L6gc power.

i went to burlington square to buy some tubes last week. Asked for tungsol, but the uncle (nice guy btw) explained that some american brand was the real one. Kinda threw me off when he said that that particular 12ax7/6l6gc tube costs $100+!!!!!

So i settled with EHX tubes. $10 for 12ax7 and $13 6l6gc, IF i recall correctly.

i remember there's a shop selling JJ tubes at sim lim square, yes SLS. But its located at the back "alley" and i dont remember which level either. The small guitar corner shop at bras basah sells JJ tubes too if im not wrong. But i do know they sell EHX tubes too.

EHX tubes are cheapest at burlington btw.

JJ sound quite okay. I'm using JJ EL84 and it costs $16 new..

you can get those in well audio in burlington too. I believe they have a whole range of those.

will i have to rebias my amp if i change both the tubes? i shouldnt have to right, since my amp is just a single tube pre and power amp?

good thread- i've been wanting to change the tubes on my valbee too!

^I've got the same question, still need to rebias when changing with similar type(6L6gc) but different brand?

oh, and is there a difference between 6L6 and 6L6gc. becauase AFAIK, a normal 6L6 puts out way more than 5 watts of power.

dey burlington sq shops only on level 1, just go in and walk around, wont miss it.
