hey guys can anyone tell me what amp to get for a jcm 2000 kinda of tone but in low wattage....
pedal will help?

Time to step up your reading skills there. All your answers that you're looking for are in the previous uncountable no. of threads you have posted about the same topic.

actually, I don't think you can get the actual JCM2000 from a smaller amp. if that were the case, Marshall will discontinue the JCM2000. Something similar sounding would be a Marshall JTM60. The best part is, that amp has a master volume switch which really helps to bring down the volume but maintain the amp's cranked up tone. lower volume = less dynamics so keep that in mind.

Having used several tube amps in my bedroom extensively over the years, i have come to the conclusion that if you want good tone in an hdb apartment, either get a solid state amp, or use good pedals.

The smallest tube amp i ever used was a Killer Ant. And my dad could hear me playing nightrain from 13 floors down.

The largest i ever used was a Ceriatone 5e3. And my grandma could hear that quite clearly from 4 blocks away at just volume 3.

A few months back i got a weber minimass, and guess what? When you turn down the volume to acceptable bedroom levels the amp sounds totally like....... a solid state amp.

People may diss the hell out of certain amps like the MG, but you have to understand that most of the haters did so as a result of attempting to use them in full band applications. Truth is with so many nice modelling and solid state amps out there on the market, if you still can't find something you like, your ears are either not working or you just don't know how to get good tone out of reasonably good gear.

Going along with the train of thought that we can't get good tube tones at low volumes...

The question may then be to ask: How can we play at loud volumes without bugging the next door neighbors?

(How about cooking Curry to distract them!)

Marshall AFD100.

With power scaling, you can get very good tube amp overdrive at TV volume. No need pedals.

I think we should be looking for the amp with the best tone at the volume we play in HDBs.

I think a Marshall JVM would be a nice amp to consider.

Epiphone Valve Junior
Blackheart Killer Ant
Vox AC4TV
Should be soft enough for HDB...
Throw pedals in front cause w/o that amp you ain't gonna get that sound.

why so many people recommend the Blackstar HT-5? It's good but it's not fantastic or anything. I had one & sold it cos I find the tone neither here nor there. Since the TS has not stated a budget, we should be recommending anything under the sun that fulfills his tone needs.

TS, why not get a JCM2000 and an attenuator?

I disagree. A small to medium wattage tube amp can give you good tube tones AND still being apartment friendly, if you set the pre and power tube gains properly. Contrary to some beliefs here, you don't have to crank it all the way (and getting too loud) to sound good. We are not Jimi Hendrix or Angus Young, even for a 5 watts combo!

A tube amp usually hits a "sweetspot" when the volume and/or master volume increases to say around 10 to 1 o'clock, depending on amp wattage and design. Within this "sweetspot", the cleans usually sound the best (sweetest and fullest) and some are on the verge of breakup. For low wattage amps with low headroom, this "sweetspot" is not that loud which is acceptable for most apartment dwellers. The idea is to keep within this "sweetspot" of desired clean/edge-of-breakup tone and volume, and then add a good overdrive, distortion or booster pedal on the front end. You will get plenty of good tube tones without annoying your sensitive neighbours.

As for the curry, it depends whether your neighbours are PRCs. :)

Was thinking of this. Save up?
I agree with the Ht-5, it's good, but then tone seems to get boring after awhile IMO.
Consider JVM or MA series?

MA looks quite affordable, may not be to your liking though

the effects loop on the ht-5 is good if you wish to use the preamp for distortion. it's one of the more pricey options for the low-watt amp side though. but from the response i'm getting from the amp, it doesn't feel like a 100% classic tube amp, maybe because of the MV design. there are not many non MV 5 watters out there with an effects loop, but that's not a problem if ts just wants to hit the sweetspot and get his main drives from pedals.
