How often do you change your tubes? How long does your average tube last? I know it kinda depends on how much you play. I play regularly, 2-3hrs almost everyday. Thirdly, do you have microphonic problems with your tubes??

I’ve not changed my power tubes since I bought my Peavey, pre-amp tubes: yes. Microphonic noises: yes if you haven’t switched your plug to 3-pin type…

The plug of my amp is made into a 3-pin plug by the factory, so I don´t think theres anything to worry about. How long did your preamp tube last subversion? Do you juz unscrew the casing for the preamp tubes and juz pop new ones into it?

Btw,,, I juz got burnt by the power tubes of my amps... Ouch... burnt my skin....

My pre-amp tubes didn’t blow, I just feel like replacing them for drive variation, currently having JJ ECC-83. the previous one were Electro Harmonix 12AX7. yeahm you can replace the pre-amp tubes yourself, no re-biasing required. The power amp tubes- these need re-biasing.

Serious? Preamp tubes don´t require biasing? Btw, where do you get your JJ 12AX7s from? You imported from Eurotubes?

there´s this amp shop at burlington square(beside sim lim square) that sells lotsa tubes. even NOS telefunkens.

Yes, that store is called Audiolab but the owner knows nuts about tubes for guitar amps. You have to do your homework before your trip there, he can’t give an opinion on which pre-amp tubes give good bass response etc…

If you are interested in my used 12AX7, I’m willing to let it go cheap…just PM me.

I´m planning on getting a Fender Blues Jr. or a Peavey Classic tube amp. Where can I get it biased? What´s biasing for anyway?

Rebiasing is to regulate the amount of current flowing into the tubes. If you as musch as unscrew a power tube amp & re-screw it back on, then the biasing is messed up… sick…

For some amps though, no baising is needed. I have 2 tube amps at home, one´s a Mesa/Boogie, the other a Fender. For Mesa/Boogie amps, all the their amps are fix biased so you´ll juz have to plug in Mesa tubes, however, you could adjust the bias on the Mesa like other tube amps to accommodate to other types of power tubes though its not recommended by Randall Smith in his manual, but hell, haha... I´ll juz try another power tube other than Mesa, maybe Groove Tubes, EH or JJ,

There should be places that offer tube rebiasing services, though I think its a simple affair. I seriously don´t know how to bias the tubes, but who cares? My friend can do it for me for free.. haha... well... maybe i´ll get him to teach me how to bias someday....

should i like change the tube in my amp cos im getting some pretty wierd sounds out of it... im not sure if its actually the amp or my electric cos its an old amp and an old guitar... anyway how do you change a tube and about how much would it cost?

Basically, its pretty easy to change tubes, you just take the old tubes out and pop in new ones. The only difficulty is probably adjusting the bias (which i have yet to learn). Anyways, tube changes is often an expensive affair, it depends what tubes you want to change to, NOS (new old stock) tubes are more expensive. I used to have a Marshall TSL60 head. I took old the chinese tubes and plugged in russian tubes and it cleaned out alot better than it used to, with more growl on the gain too, better bass response. I wished I had my TSL60 head now.... coz i have a set of EL34 NOS Mullards which are no longer in production. These things costs alot in the market now.
