guys im juz thinking of these idea.. of donation.. well as u know tsunami is over but they need to rebuild the country and stuff like that.. and at anioother place in sumatra..there goes another earthquake..since in this soft website,.. theres a lot of band.. why dont all of yall.. do some gig.. for donation ^^.. juz asking..or maybe we can donate to cancer patient or sumthing too.. juz to keep busy.. heheheheh

maybe fellow gig organisers who had done fund-raising gigs before can give us some input on this.

i had discussed this before with some other SOFTies who suggested fund-raising gigs and i could never convince myself how it could work.

need some experts here.

yeah man...we need some help for e money i think...work together with red cross or mercy relieve etc..need a reputable body or trustworthy etc...and at the same time we can kill two birds with one stone....we can gain experience n have fun n keep busy while doin bits for charity...

Why dun you help out with Music For Good? They have tons of outreach programmes for child patients with cancer and they are the gig organisers with the highest amount of events a year. They need loads of volunteers as well.

In addition, they just won a S$35,000 grant from a corporate sponsor. You can be sure you will be doing good there!

hey AgingYouth, have you organised a fund-raising gig before? if yes, did it work? if no, do you think it will work?

Ehhhhhh soft...

No lah, we never did one b4 though we planned for one in the last quarter of this year. The angle got rejected by one of the venue owners we were planning to work with.

The fundraising bit works lah as long as you have astronomical figures to achieve or you think you are NKF lah... MFG did a gig at YMCA in Feb. If I'm not wrong, they hit slightly above the S$3,000 mark they were aiming for. So, I guess you gotta see how much you wanna raise and try to get more sponsors for the equipment and venue. I think it's workable lah.

However, you'll need a fund-raising license if you were go around carrying donation boxes, asking ppl to put in money, etc. So tt's the tricky bit...

ummm.. quite hard to say too yeah ... but i really want to do this.. i have passion for this hahahahah.. well umm wad i mean is like.. we do acoustic like in mrt station.. then juz put box there hahahahah will that help?? i need some advice since im new to all this thing..

hi mekz

i am glad that you have the passion. if you want to do charity/volunteer work, you can start right at any old folks home. just call them up and ask them how you can help.

every week, i try to visit the Home where my aunt stays. i will chat with some others residents there too. simple conversation will make them happy. sometimes, my sister will buy $10 of biscuits and let my little newphew and niece distribute to the residents. such a joy to bring a smile to the folks.

in charity/volunteer work, start small and start with something more direct. understand the need of the people you want to reach out to. sometimes, it is not money. they just want someone to talk with.
