My travel companion is a little Washburn Rover.
Washburn Rover Travel Guitar
For the price (I paid around S$150 for it online, incl.shipping), it's a wonderful friend. I take her with me on every single trip overseas. The thing I wanted to highlight is that she's got a full-size neck, rather than a scaled-down 3/4 sized one which is rather tedious to play or even practise on. That's the most important factor for me.
Sound-wise, well, let's be honest. Anyone who tells you a small and thin-bodied travel guitar can sound like a big ol J5 is crazy, lying or deaf. But in my opinion, the solid top Rover will give you as much tone as you can reasonably expect from a guitar of that size. And my ears prefer it to a Martin Backpacker, that's for sure. Plus Washburn gives you a moulded case (they don't call it a hardcase, but it's a damn sight sturdier than a gigbag for sure). That case alone is probably half the price of the guitar if you ask me.
The only problem I have is that it's tough to play such a small guitar seated, because it doesn't cradle well on your lap. But hey, what do you expect? I play it strapped and standing up. In a hotel room, there's no one to see me go crazy jumping around like Angus. (Kidding...;-))
On a side note, I asked the local Washburn dealer how much it'd take to bring this in and the answer I got was in the $500 range. So let your fingers do the walking if you're interested in this...
