Training the ear to pick up notes faster..

Hi, anyone can share the steps of their successful experience ?

I still find it quite hard to train my ear to pick up the notes and/or chords used within a song. I've got an idea of roughly figuring out notes by trying to find which scale fits the song. Btw, is there any exercise to develop my hearing to identify the color of chords ?

I think the best way to utilize both the application and apply it on progression. example: learning songs by hearing or even play a chord against one another to understand how it actually sounds (eg: play a diminished chord against a minor.)
