Tonerider vs Tesla pups

Hi all,

I'm looking for a set of hum buggies but would like to keep it economical, did some read up and searching and have narrowed my choices to Tonerider's Rocksong and Tesla's Opus-1.

I play mainly classic rock.

Has anyone tried either of these 2 models and care to share your insights on them?

Please highlight some other value for $ pups that you've tried too.

well i'm not sure abt those 2 pickups and what u call economical but considering the price of the opus 1 i think u can get most of the SD pickups that go well with classic rock like the alnico pro ii set or the 59/jb set.

Classic Rock? I'd avoid the Rocksongs and go straight for the Alnico 2 or 4 classics for Toneriders. A Classic 4 for the neck, and the 2 for the bridge. Killer tones!

Opus-1 is 100% worth trying! I tried it in a rally gl-300 and a fake gibson les paul so far.
Very quality clean sounding and powerful dirt sounding produced!

They do but Mike is at Woodlands...
Hmm go try those pickups out at their respective shops. There may be a sound that appeals. However, if you want to stay safe go with SD. Just my 2 cents.

I'll get the Tesla, no question asked. I've been using Tesla Plasma 2 for 2 years.
The Opus range is still new but I'm eyeing Opus 2.
Humbucker sized P90. Sweeeeet!!!

^ actually come to think of it, i used to have a tesla vr 2 in my yamaha strat bridge. not a hot pickup but i loved its overdrive. very sweet sounding. that doesnt mean it cant handle rock, just have to use the right amp :D

I tried the Tonerider Rocksong in the bridge position of my Strat and its not that bad sounding..sounds good on overdrive..the Tesla VR-3 is also great sounding too, same goes for Plasma 7 (sounds similar to the VR-3, IMO)...the Tesla pickups are really great value for money..I just got a pair of Tesla Extremes and they will be going into a DIY Strat that I'm building soon :)

i've heard the opus in the neck position of a les paul-type and IMO it sounds great and almost perfect for classic rock. it's really clear and articulated with a tinge of blues. only gripe is that it's not a fan of way low tunings.... but there arent many classic rock songs in D or C, rite?

aFTER MY 1ST CHOICE dImARZIO - tESLA ARE MY CHOICE ... UST GOT A SET OF PLAMAS 3..NECK & BRIDGE FOR MY NEW SRTAT PROJECT
