In my opinion, my tone kings are
1. Eric Clapton (les paul days)
2. Eric Johnson
3. Jimmy Page

worst tone ever:
1. Dimebag Darrell.

Okay, so who are ur tone kings? (bassists, state yours too)

i understand this topic might be pretty volatile, so RESPECT other softies opinions and music tastes.

Rhythm/Riffing:
Tom Morello (RATM, Audioslave)
Angus Young (AC/DC)
Fat crunchy tones that are simply killer!

Lead:
Slash (G&R, Velvet Revolver)
John Mayer
Stevie Ray Vaughan
Eric Johnson
Joe Satriani
Thick, heavy tones. Funny only EJ uses fuzz cause that's what I love!

Pyschadelic riffs!:
Mike Einziger (Incubus)
Matthew Bellamy (Muse)
David Gilmour (Pink Floyd)
Effective use of effects to obtain an intricate level of depth in seemingly simple riffs.

i quite like the rawness of dimebag's tone :( i'm gonna go with the guy who can tell the difference in tone between a 0.73 and 0.74mm pick. (his name starts with e and ends with ric johnson)

im still pretty amazed by the delay work done by the edge.

u2 has a huge sound despite having only one guita

Dave Mustaine, Glenn Tipton, James Murphy. You know its them ( i know anyway) when they start playing.

On the other side of the planet, you know when Kirk hammet starts to solo.
