Hi guys,
I did a post earlier titled Lawsuit Gutiars, but will share here also.
There is a guy in singapore who brings in vintage japanese guitar, i can't remember his name, but have his e-mail -
loneeurope@yahoo.com. he also place an ad in SOFT earlier for some jap guitars. I have gone to his place to try them out. and boy... these are really good stuff. i tried a Burny and Orville. Feels like the real thing. Sounds like the real thing.
he had a Greco but wasn't that fantastic because it was chambered body. but still beat an epiphone anytime.
like what subversion mentioned, swapping hardware is only one thing. the body and neck and how they are joined play an extremely important part too, especially when you are talking about sustain. seriously, i don't think epiphone has that kind of quality control.
I went to davies and the tokais there are great, beat epiphone and the greco i tried, but in my opinion, don't think they match up to the burny and orville.
i did some research on the web and i suspect the really good tokais are those made in the late 70's and early 80's (plus their wood probably matured by now). The newly made ones, you will need the LS-120 series and above to match the competition. those at davies are the LS 85 models. hope davies will bring in the higher end tokais.
don't know if that guy who brought in the jap guitars brings Tokais tho... he mentioned that he has another shipment coming in. well, you guys drop him a mail if interested.
my 2 cent's worth... please correct me if there is any thing wrong with my post. i relatively new to these jap guitars anyways.
