Hi anyone owns any tokais? Where you got urs? Im looking for lespauls.

I saw a few in davis, they cost like 1.3k... any idea where got cheaper tokai lespauls? my budget say abt... 400 to 600.

not all Tokais @ Davis are $1,400, the korean models are about half the price.

i've reviewed one over @ GEAR NEWS 2005 8)

Ok thanks subversion. I didnt see any korea ones.

All those with tokais are 1.3k 1.4k and one at 900+.

No more others at lower price.

it could only mean one thing- sold off... there were a few Korean ones when i tested them out. 2 LP models, one with a Bigsby-type vibrato & several SG copies...

Maple top guitars cost more i heard. How do u identify if it is maple top? To like avoid from getting cheated? Lol...

Oh and, i saw in another thread regarding epiphones not as good as tokai...

Epiphones uses cheap electronics or something? Can explain more? Thanks

not too sure about this, but from wad i noe, if you look at real flame maple tops, you can see the flames moving sorta lyk a hologram or fish skin texture, if its fake maple or a laminate lyk mine, it wun move, well dats wad i tink, coz i saw mi fren's warwick bass and the flames were wicked

reads somewhere from sub that epiphones are less of the feel to gibsons as tokai guitars are.

the other thing imo is epiphone changed manufacturer a few years back. imo no longer as good as the older ones.

How about this, compare Squier to Fender Japan, who's better? Of course Ephiphone is worse off. Tokais are way better.

it's difficult to recognize a real maple cap as oppossed to laminate tops. a sure way to do so would be to remove the pickups from their cavity & look at the unfinished portion of the guitar there. if it's a real top, there would be a distinct layer of 2 diff wood, like the one here:

also, if the body edge binding is removed, you'd see this distinct layer as well:

in any case, a real top is costly to make, guitars in the lower price bracket which sport such looks are immediate suspect. an example would be this Ibanez SA160:

Epi have been using generic pickups in their guitars but since 2002, some of their models have genuine Gibson humbuckers on board, eg: Epiphone Boneyard:

Oh so that means, some of the lespauls with that "outer outline" thingy, is the maple top?

Cause some of e lps i see in stalls got the whiteoutline. I thought its some design or something

Subversion: Ok just wondering, if i get an epiphone lp. change the machine heads and pickups. Will it be as close as tokai? in terms of tone?

but what u mean quality wise will be diff? as in the workmanship ? or parts used. or both. thanks

swapping electronics & hardware might help but there's no guarantee that it'll be for the better.

lower priced guitars, especially those sporting laminate tops, would have the edge binding to give the illusion that it's a real top. it's a tried & tested trick. if there is a body binding, it doesn't mean there is a real cap in there, bear this in mind.

quality as in the overall construction, fit & finish. Epis caould have been better with consistency, out of 20 units, maybe 5 would be top notch, not to say that the rest are duds, but they somehow escape the quality control before leaving the factory.

oh... i see ur point... so afterall tokai will be a better choice i supppose?

any idea how much a second hand tokai lp will cost? ard 300+? and the 1st hand is 500+?

tokai is not a better choice, but more sensible- try them out first, they may/ may not appeal to u...

the jap tokais would be about $900 used... korean might be about $480. nobody selling used ones- yet... 8)

Hmmm i see...

Just wondering. how about Aria lespauls? I tried one at er... the shop opposite luther.

The one with alot of smarvo amps and tgm acoustics.

They have this korea made lespaul... 400 bucks with bag. sounds not bad... dunno abt quality... aria guitars good?
