To prevent rust , can is use brasso on my cloth and wipe it??

just wondering

1)how do i know if my fretboard is rose wood or maple?

2) do the dunlop guitar maintainence kit happen to have the ability to remove rust on the fret wires? or should i use WD40 or something while covering my fretboard?

much thanks! XD

Well for your question 2 the maintenance kit is to prevent the frets from collecting those dry sweat dirt, grimes and prevention of rust.It does not permanently remove it....A good grade of carnuba wax,or perhaps lemon oil or tung oil is all that you should bring into contact with a fretboard.I would avoid any strong cleaners or preservatives or anti-rust stuff of any kind on fretboards.

You can also use like what our fellow member Zarin recommended above the GHS Fast Fret.

But if you really want to and dont mind wasting a couple of dough for your prize axe...i recommend the Micro Fine Fret Polishing Cloth. Its darn fine and i believe it could solve the rust issue for you.Link ->http://www.jimdunlop.com/index.php?page=products/pip&id=240&pmh=products/maintenance

WARNING : DO NOT USE THE DUNLOP 01 FINGERBOARD (CLEANER & PREP) ON MAPLE FRETBOARD!!
If you dont know how it looks like, see the picture below.

Here is a link i found in the Net of how in a way you can clean your axe->http://frets.com/FRETSPages/Musician/GenMaint/Cleaning/cleaning01.html

Is there a possible way to remove rust on frets? I'm using SX jazz bass.

use non adhesive tape and tape up your fingerboard only exposing the metal part then use metal polish. I used auto sol. But i heard that it makes the metal yellow after time.
