Tiny Guitar for a holiday?

Hi all softies!

Im going holidaying in Australia in june and im basically back-packing with 7 friends. Its a half-treking, half-roadtrip.

We had plans to sit around a campfire and sing from sunset till dawn, but i realise it will be very inconvenient to lug my guitar around. It not the probability that i may lose it that deters me from taking it along, its the size.

Is there any guitar i can buy that can be taken along backpacking, that cost less than $100? I thought the martin backpacker guitar was good but i cant pay that much.

Thanks!
HL

Get an UKELELE!

Anyway. Cort Earth Mini? I'd recommend that if you could slgihtly up your budget.
There are numerous half sized guitars. Check Davis, Maestro, G77, TYMC, SV, Ranking, Swee Lee, Byleft, and all the rest as well... They could hold some good deals! They ought to have some half sized or three quarter size guitars. Go round looking for the right one.
For example,

Or,

I have tried neither of these, maybe you should go try them out yourself. As well as the rest of the stalls in and about. The only one i have tried is the Earth Mini. I'd say it has quite a good sound for a travel guitar.

ok thanks :) how much is the cort earth mini though? I cant find it on swee lee's official website.

haha i might try out the ukelele just for kicks becuase its size is so handy! Does the ukelele play very differently from the guitar, chords and notes aside?

The tuning is different, and also it has a much higher pitched sound as compared to a guitar. My recommendation would be to get a 3/4 sized guitar. (:

the thing about short scaled instruments is that the feel is actually significantly different compared to a regular guitar. you might want to try them out first before buying and please do not buy for the sake of buying.

I would rather grab a regular bolt on guitar and remove the neck from the body while transporting. however, weight is also an issue there....

i'm on the hunt for one myself.. i tried out the little martins and baby taylors, and feel that they aren't exactly worth the money for its sound, and built (esp for the baby taylor without neck heel).
i'd most probably opt for something cheaper that stays in tune, get it well set up and just eq my way for tone:)

Hey guys,

thank you all for your input. I really appreciated it.

Today, i went down to the shops you mentioned, took a look at all the prices, had a feel of all the guitars...

I must say the baby taylor takes the cake, but boy its not cheap haha. Way beyond budget haha.

Oh well, since the holiday is 3 months away, my friends all donated 10 bucks and got me a $60 Samick UK-50 UKULELE. They demand i be able to play it to any song that want by june. It sounds pretty sweet!

Ah, so its an ukulele. Wish me luck.
