Time for a new guitar...

so guys, i plan to get a new acoustic...i desperately need something more dreadnought-ish..something loud, yet not too loud...has of course, a nice tone..nice sweet highs, warm lows...

if possible, i wouldn't mind good electronics too...

My budget is about 1k...actually, i came across some guitars...like the Maton EM225C...seems like an extremely nice guitar, but it doesn't have solid sides and back...where as like the epiphone masterbilt which offers all solid wood for about the same price...yet, i'm not really a big fan of epiphone...

So to sum it all up, i'm looking for (in order of importance) Tone, Solid all over, Electronics, looks

if i were you, i'll save up more for a Martin or something that's better.

The funny thing about acoustic guitar is.. if they ain't using a decent wood, the tone will just deteriorate as days goes by. I used to think it'll just get better as i play, not exactly. I've a mid range $450-$500ish solid spruce top with ovangkol acoustic, the sound just gets worse.Muddy. I'm not very sure why but yes it seems that way. And we are not talking about resale value. So i'm stuck with my J45 now. haha..

Gr3y: Could it be signs of a 'wet' guitar? Dehumidication, either with a dehumidifier of Thirsty Hippo packets, will really allow the guitar to sound 'alive'. I used to have an old Yamaha that was 'wet' due to it being kept on a guitar stand, but using my dehumidifier improved the tone by leaps and bounds.

Wet wood = heavier wood = impaired resonance.

Hey dude, go to www.bgwguitars.com and get the Alvarez MD80 from Brendon. All solid, no electronics, but you can always add them later when you've saved up enough money. Your other alternative is the Yamaha LL16, which I believe goes for Sub-1K during sales.

Both guitars come with Solid Spruce/Solid Rosewood. Tonally, the Engelmann on the Yamaha really makes it sound crisp.

There isn't an Alvarez 'shop'. Brendon is the dealer though, he operates from home, and sells high quality stuff at good prices (no operating costs and such).

I would really encourage you to buy the guitar first, and add the pickup later. That way, you can choose what pickup system you want, rather than being forced to get one with a huge hole cut into the side for the preamp, thereby affecting tone.

Is the Living Strings still open? Haven't been there in a long time, but I know they stocked Alvarez guitars and other sweet European brands. Price range is maybe 1-1.5k.

For Maestro... I have heard of the bad quality control but I'd advise you to go to the shop and try a few out - you might just stumble upon a really good piece.

Hey, why dont u try the ibanez aws1000 from luthermusic? it is according to ur specs but it cost $1080, which means $80 dollars more...

no offence but i will probably stay away from ibanez...their gear ain't constant...the one you try on display could be bloody nice, but the one they take from the storeroom might suck...

oh, i owned a takamine before. it was good but i bought the mid-range though... 1st hand all solid takamine is going to cost a bomb i think... If u dont mind 2nd hand, some1 was selling the takamine eg40sc a few wks ago.

btw, it is best if u go down to the guitar shops and try...

haha if u have the moolahs, i highly highly recomend the gibson humming bird..damn those birds are awesome...very warm and everything just feels right..and its damn chio also..however the price tag even chio-er..

and for those whose guitar sounds abit muddy after awhile , try using the ghs CONTACT CORE strings..they are the brightest u can find and i personally use them..good sh*t there..

actually, i just came across the Timothy S7 from Sinamex...all solid, looks great, reviews are great...how much are they tho? the reviews say 800 bucks? but some other guy in a forum said 1.3...
