Tight Low End

sound

Hey hey fellas..

I kinda discovered how to get somewhat close to the miller sound by adding punch (Aphex Punch Fac), as well as moist depth and glossy highs (Aguilar DB 924) and I choose to use the parallel, passive and both pickup settings on my GnL. Comes pretty close. And when switch to bridge pickup can sound like jaco/bona too..

Hehehe anyway SWR's good? thinking of getting one for home use.. a small one. Any ideas?

IMO SWRs colour the tone too much. it's a safe sessionist tone. i prefer amps which has character. like hartkes and ampegs

yo guys, not to divert from the topic, but where do you guys get your aphex pedals ?, like the punch fac and comp. thanks. :D

Both bass exciter n the punch factory are out.I was there recently. They ran out of stock n none of them could give me an answer as to when will the new stock comes in. Gonna try again next month. How abt other compressor e.g the mxr supercom or dynacom or the keeley's 02 knobs.(G77 ran out of the 4 knobs as told by them). Any opinion?

Keeley is expensive though. The rest are not as transparent, however if you like the coloration than go ahead and buy it.
I imported my Aphex PF & Bass Xciter from Music 123.

Thanks colarndo. Yup true. The keeleys is @$380 for the 02 knobs and $480 forthe 4 knobs. The mxr and aphex punch factory are much lesser. I intend to try out alll before i proceed with my purchase.

i had the MXR Supercomp for a while .. it works as it is supposed to .. =) .. pretty transparent .. so if you want you can give either the Supercomp or the Dynacomp a shot ..

i tried the Multicomp before at Davis ... along with superkicky ...

some thoughts on it ...

1. it was great ... really, can't go wrong with EBS products. Their 3 mode thingy was really cool, the tube compressor sounds really good to my ears then; warm and full.

2. transparent, the compression wasn't obvious; studio like quality.

3. expensive lah ... $300 bucks leh ...

exin: damn...you write untill i feel like getting 1 man...1 question bro,the gap between dynacomp/supercomp and multicomp [in terms of sound produced]...there's a big diff or?

get goose's citrus comp! so transparent you wouldnt know it's on unless you looked at the light or at the waveform produced :P it's a damn good comp at any price range.

reyrey:

MXR has quality .. if you're looking at just a simple compressor the MXR will work fine .. either the dynacomp or supercomp ..

the EBS multicomp is .. what it says .. a multiband compressor . .means you can actually adjust how much you want it to compress either the low end .. or the high end .. that one have to unscrew the back plate and adjust the threshold settings ...

either than that .. comparatively the EBS is more transparent than the MXR ... =)
