Hi people.I'd like to gather information on what I need to know to be able to play MUSE songs.Like, what chords should I master, etc.I've just picked up guitar and find that open chords I've been learning(D,A,E,Dm,Am,Em,G,C etc.) don't seem to come up much in MUSE songs but more rock power chords, arpeggios and so on.I've heard that barre chords are also used.
So I'd like to inquire what else I need to cover a MUSE song.

hmm..dont just learn tabs. you gotta use ur ears and watch their live performance at times. they do use open chords. matt sometimes play stockholm's chorus with open chords. hah. hope this helps. lol. :D

It's better if u continue to practice on ur chords first. Maybe other open chords (besides the one u stated), power chords, barre chords. And choose a song that is easy to practice on and also make sure u get the strumming pattern and rhythm right. Something like "collide by howie day"?

Well, to be honest i don't think u are ready to play Muse or other rock music yet. U should take a step slowly and learn the basics 1st. Once u are done with it, you progress on to techniques that will help u to play better. Like arpeggios (as u stated), scales, shredding etc...

Maybe after u play better, u will be able to play any song u like.

i find it weird, that when i started out all my problems were answered through google or youtube. i mean, damn the first solo i learnt was stairway to heaven and i didnt really need to ask for so much help

Metallica's One intro solo for me. Along with scarified (which I still can't play properly).
On classical guitar btw. I got long fingers. :\

ahahah not bad! i kinda forced myself to learn scarified as well, but til today only can nail the intro right, as in clean and up to speed

In my opinion, if you want to play Muse, you'll have to be familiar with many different types of effects and how to use them properly.

Muse is simple stuff played slow, I don't see why you need to learn anything special.

Not entirely true, the real question not how to play muse, (muse songs are fairly easy to play). It's actually how to sound like muse. Matt has a truckload of effects, mainly delays, WH4, Fuzz Factory and the Kaoss Pad. So if you want to be a muse cover band, this is where you should look after mastering the playing section of the songs. That said, you don't always need to play it the way Matt did.
