The unofficial Youth Olympic Games 2010 thread

Ok...here's the first discussion...

How on freakin' earth does the YOG budget go from $110M to more than $300M? And it may hit $400M after the event is over. That's more than 3 times and it's all our tax monies. It's either a gross miscalculation, a really screwed-up cost projection, total incompetence within the PAP ranks, or a combination of all.

Anyway...expect a typical reply something like below...

My heart goes out to everyone who have had to put up with the YOG theme when it comes on the screen& probably when it's played repeatedly at the games venues.

...get earplugs, save your eardrums.

I seriously think YOG epitomizes a trait SG has been adopting for useless stuff...
Glorifying S**T.

Think about the saikang you did during NS
Think about the damn marching and weekends burnt to do that NDP thing... and the advertisement of the commander saying since he was a kid that was his dream... hello where got kid dream to be commander of NDP sia

but I love my SG, happy national day to all!

Haha ... I wonder who will actually turn up for YOG. This is a freaking worldwide event, and we have to force kids to buy tickets to show support for it ... Sorry, people have to work and study, no time to show loyalty to country.

I'll probably watch events like boxing or wrestling though if its shown on chan 5

also in taekwondo- final match (48kg) iran vs israel: the former pulled out citing injury... really...? reeked of politics, definitely. have they not learned from Karate Kid- you can win even if you are injured, tsk tsk tsk...

Both my teenage kids took part in the opening ceremony.
And both couldnt stop yapping about it even after we picked them up from school in the wee hours.

It continued till next morning:
... how handsome, pretty, gorgeous etc the athletes are
... how their hands hurt with all the hi-fives exchanged between them
... how the guys smiled at them etc.

blalala bla. And me listening all bleary eyed and in need of shut-eye. LOLz.

Well, they had a great time and thats what counts for me.

Latest: YOG volunteers kena food poisoning!

First YOG volunteers were served with food fit for dogs.

http://sg.yfittopostblog.com/2010/08/13/storm-over-food-for-yog-volunteers/

Now YOG volunteers were by poisoned by food fit for dogs.

While all the foreign athletes, officials and delegates are fed with hotel grade buffet.

And PAP still wants us to be gracious and have the YOG spirit, so they can show off to their foreign visitors. It's a sad time to be Singaporeans.

hoho i saw the amount of stuff on temasak forums kekke.

The opening for the yog left me swearing a little. I mean come on.. a 'monster' from the nightmare??

Looks like a cheap pull out from a powerpuff girls episode.

Performing wondergirls's songs in front of the koreans, i wonder how they felt.

Anyone else notice that the flag bearers were lost also? They came out representing their country holding their flags proudly. They present the flag to the crows and then were unsure where to head towards. Ended up causing a short lived jam.

Gosh.

Hope ministers justify smth soon.

Hahahaha yeahh the flagbearers. My friends and i were laughing away at the farce of it all. Today's newspapers also said it all: YOG venues empty despite all tickets being sold out. Why? Schoolkids, PRIMARY school kids are the ones going! FAIL. Isn't it supposed to be the secondary school and JC kids? Why aren't they there? Oh, because education comes first, so poor JC kids like me have to have prelim exams right during the YOG so i do't really have time to go down and watch. And if i do find time at the last minute, the tickets are all sold out. FAIL. C'mon, China had a 2week holiday prior to the Games for preparation, and they also had holiday during the Games, i saw many teens in the crowds attending the various events. But noooooooo, we can't sacrifice our studies can we? Seriously, Singapore organises some bigshit thing, oh its the first Youth Olympic Games EVER and it won't ever come back to Singapore our lifetime. What then, am i doing worrying about prelims when i'll gladly take time off to support the Games? FAIL.

soccer: Singapore 3 - Montenegro 2

thanks for the live broadcast but thumbs down to Channel 5 for:

*bad camera placement- cameras are located at the opposite side of the grand stand. the angle was susch that once the ball went to the near-side perimeter, the view was blocked by the spectator gallery. hmmm... why were the cameras there in the first place, during S-league matches, cameras were at the grand stand, no? hint: ministers at the grand stand

*no score display on screen

*no time lapse display on screen
