hi, this being my virgin post on the forum, thought it would be most interesting to reply to this thread. reading the postings so far, it is apparent that some folks here have yet to understand the fact that different ppl have different tastes in music. somehow i find this especially common amongst singaporeans. my hope for 2006 is that singaporean musicians be more open-minded and learn to respect differing opinions.
with regards to the suns, i have to say that their recorded songs sound quite ordinary. however, it is important to note that they have made a name for themselves in australia based mainly on their live shows. i expect these to be very exciting affairs and as such, have gained them popularity. have not had a chance to watch their gig so i can't comment on them as a live act. one thing i do know is that during my stay in sydney in '02-'03, there were hardly any aussie bands playing the same brand of music as the suns, so they probably stand out amongst the local bands there.
also like to add that we should recognise the fact that a band's image, style and behaviour do affect how the listener judges their music. for example, i do enjoy the music of sex pistols quite a lot, however, some people think the band is a joke and just part of a scam created by malcolm mclaren. as such, i would not be surprised that the suns behaviour in the past may bias ppl's opinions about their music.
