the Singapore Strat congregation...

hey Marshall_Law: why do you need to change the trem? if you don't whammy, you can do what we do- add more springs/ insert a wedge 8)

er... i got a question... will more springs add on to the string tension?... i dun use the trem either... but my trem is floating... for the "ring?" ... some funny difference in sound when your trem is floating lah...more bell like sounds or sumthing , all of which i dont notice...only the notes i play going off when i accidentally press on the trem..that i hear clearly.

anyone has problems with the tone knob not working some times then need to jiggle the Volume knob to get the tone knob to work?... this problem wasnt present when i first had the guitar.. im thinking its the contacts giving me problems...

the tension remains... when you add more trem springs, there's more 'pull' from the trem but the same amount of tuning tension is unable to bring the trem to a floating position. 8)

as for you knobs going dysfunctional- yup, it might be the contacts.

I'm new to all these tremolo stuffs. May i know what is a floating position? And what's the purpose for adding more springs?

floating- you can raise & lower the pitch. unidirectional would be van halen's vibrato- he only lowers his pitch.

adding more springs to prevent the vibrato from moving- for those of us who like the feel of the vibrato but dislike the tone from the hard tail unit.

So for floating, you can raise and lower the pitch when using the bar on the whammy, am i rite?

So what's the type of stock tremolo on the strat? Is it a floating or a undirectional? Sorry for so many question, i'm a newbie to this tremolo stuffs

it's a matter of set up- most vibratos can be set to float. guitars with a cavity under the vibrato eg: Ibanez enables you to raise the pitch more because there's no body surface to stop this inclination 8)

just to check ar... you strat players ....

i always used my neck pickup for solosand bridge for rythm.....

but recently i watched mr paul daniel wail away on the bridge pickup...
very confusing...
so for strats..the " solo " pickup is it the bridge pickup or the neck pickup?... or you switch between the two "during" the solo to get more bite/mellow out the sound....

is getting a SD lil59 at the bridge spoiling the strat? or should i stick with a single coil at bridge?...

anyone has hs3/hs2/yjm pickups in their strat...?... hows the clean of those pickups?... i know cant be cleaner then true single coils...but is it a nice clean or a muddy clean?...

there's no hard & fast rule which dictates a soloing pickup. i solo on both, for a more pronounced top end, i'll do it on the bridge pickup.

the Lil' 59 is a humbucker & that means it'll lose the top end definition. get this pickup if you think you need a humbucking tone. an immediate loss upon this replacement is the trademark strat twang; no humbucker can out-twang a single coil. 8)

ChanMin, i like your j-craft strat man, the holygrail pickups r clean as a whistle n twangy. with a cool midrange curve response from them. :)

i think i'll get the lil 59 ... but they (musicplaza)only carry it in black which is really sad...
i cannot stand it already the holygrails are... too too weak... great for clean but distorted is just like maxing out on a scooter.

i still remember the holygrails reacting when i edited the efx to suit ... but if u r changing, do consider dimarzios that give u the output n maintain 'strat-ism'. happy hunting.

i thought of getting yjm pickups but abit like not "true" to the single coils sound...

but i hate the stupid BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZT with normal single coils...

what im most worried about is the clean tone of my guitar.... mr paul..what you think ah ?... if i pick as hard as you told me to...then the guitar might not sound weak ... cus of the extra force on the strings...

or should i do the switch...
pls advise dude...

try dimarzio's 'virtual vintage 54's' - the virtual series r 5 conductor pickups = noiseless yet preserving vintage tone. they can go from twang to chug, depending on your string attack. Higher in output too :) next time around, try my bridge VV-54's pickup, hear how it reacts to your picking attack. personally, i would go for staggered pole pieces types.

well i personally will also prefer staggered pole pieces... looks more authentic... sound wise not really sure if it makes a difference.

oh well will try to get these on the 2nd hand market..if really cannot..then i will just change all 3 hs3

so the floating bridge can bu used to raise a pitch huh.... o_O .....didnt know... tot only the floyd rose cud do the job... but may i know what is the advantage and disadvantages.... and how much does it cause to change into a floating bridge ???

IMO, if you have to gouge out wood from your strat to accomodate a floater like the Floyd Rose for instance- it's not worth it...
