The Price of Progress

at the cost of morals?

So we have to make a stand on what we consider more important.

i dont think i rather live in the past where there was no technology like now.

of course, i don't mean that i want development to have an such negative impact. it is ultimately how the government handles such situations.

i mean, there arent people who get buried alive in Singapore when HDB apartments were built right?

It is not possible to refuse an eviction in China, since the government technically owns all the land.

Chinese law also does not require developers to agree a compensation fee before they demolish a property.

"The current framework offers little protection to homeowners," said a spokesman for CHRD.

"Evictions are often carried out in the middle of the night and without prior notice. Evictees are rarely, if ever, given any legal aid and some sink into poverty after being evicted from their homes," he added.

Now I know why they flock to Singapore in large numbers.

Haha, in Singapore, people werent buried when HDB blocks were built. However, interestingly in Singapore, graves were exhumed to make way for HDBs. A good example is Bishan.

hmm, other things happen, though not things as obvious as burying pple alive.
But nonetheless, things that impinge on ur freedom and peace of mind.
but i guess this isn't the right thread to talk about them.

there's always a price to pay for everything.

with the influx of foreign "talents", we have no choice but to resort to such methods to make more space. but hey, look at it this way: at least they aren't killing people.

so you want freedom but you loathe the free market economy?

soo....China shouldnt have taken the capitalist road, she should remain as a stalinist economy. I'm sure a lot people will be better off eh?

Stalinist economy is not so bad if you live in the rural area and belong to the lower income and social group...because almost everything is taken care of by the state. But then such economy will take the country backwards by a few decades.

In Singapore they fight all the way to court and divorce for en bloc.
Recently there was a case like that! Wife signs en bloc agreement. Hubby disagrees. Fight to court. On the way divorce. Sad isn't it.

It's not just communism, people in China generally do not care much about living things. Don't believe me? You guys should go to China and see how animals are treated. It was a real eye opener for me, and I hate the country now more than I ever did.

Probably they find it hard to resist the delicious tiger meat and the beautiful tiger skin. Much more profitable than feeding them cheap chicken bones everyday.
