forgive me for starting this thread here, there is currently a Mayhem discussion over at the Concert/ Gig segment but i'm trying to appeal to a wider reader base, here goes...
it seems that the Mayhem fanfare made it to the New Paper. if you don't already know, Mayhem is a black metal band with notorious, destructive past who are still active proponents of the genre but they now embrace a different set of philosophies. but will you give a hoot?
difficult, yes? especially when you read in TNP how the (ex)members were suicidal & murderous. these are but the band's tainted past, everything has changed since. however, we all know too well how these bits make juicy media fodder. to think that the government here advocates for repentence with the yellow ribbon project...
the article cites Mayhem's banned performance across the causeway 'because of the band's reputation' quoting from the article. however, if one is initiated enough to probe further, the ban was part of the authority's crack down on drug consumption/ peddling during such concerts.
a very recent operation saw the arrest of Singaporeans on the scene. so now you know, there is actually a S'pore connection to it.
well, well, it seems that there is a preferential tolerance for music here. the media embraces a certain Madonna, whose Hung Up music video showcases her repeatedly spreading her legs- with that tight spandex on, there might be more than meets the eye.
if Mayhem is a group of topless, dancing, girls with a backdrop of lighting extravaganza, their performance here might just be approved...
