Hmm.

Ok, honestly it looks fine... but then the news on the ground regarding Gibson's dodgy QC turns me off.

Secondly, while this might just be the next best workhorse for the studio musician... I personally feel like it is built to be used with a computer and a bundle of software rather than a modest pedal-board and an amplifier.

Yes, technology and mindsets have to move forward... and somehow I have the feeling that this thread would probably become another pedals versus fingers debate.

Rather, I'm more interested in what's on everyone's expectations for a guitar. Do you like one that brings out features like the Gibson HD? Do you like multi-layered features in a guitar? Are you a traditionalist?

What would be the perfect guitar for you?

At the rate that technology is improving, it will be outdated only too soon. And even if Gibson comes up with upgrade packages to counter this, those will cost $$.

But at the very least, Gibson is doing something to its product lineup.

How similiar would buying a regular LP and then installing a midi pickup be to this?

Looks like there's nothing on the software side within the guitar?

I'm all for it if Gibson doesn't show up with mindboggling prices. Guitarists have to move on really... midi is cool.

I rather Gibson put in effort into improving their QC than come up with products which may not exactly cut into the market. 8) Guitarists are a very conservative bunch after all. Yup we have to move on!!

The possibilities sounds cool though, imagine each string coming through one amp.. six amps around you....

Next year they'll come out with a guitar that you can SMS,email, play games and listen to your mp3 with, so if you're bored on stage you can do other stuff...... Watch out for it!

Someone mentioned other similar efforts by Behringer, Line 6 and also Fender. Has anyone used such guitars like these extensively?

Hmm.

Ah, okay now that I understand your expectations of our replies.. okay.. here goes.

What would be the "perfect" guitar for me..? I guess if it could be in line with that Line 6 have offered so far, BUT allowing the guitars to interact better with conventional solid-state or valve-driven amps.

My impression so far is that Line 6 build their amps and guitars to complement each other.. which isn't exactly a bad thing... I have had both good and bad experiences with their amps... zilch experience with their guitars thus far.

Then again, having all that geek electronics stuff loaded into an axe might come in useful.. but as the saying goes... the more shit you have, the more shit that could happen.

For that particular guitar, it depends if you feel its worth the US$4900.

It doesn't work for me, the money is better spend elsewhere. However, in regards to Gibby's QC, I think it's actually very decent this 2 years. Do a search in TGP and compare the threads from 03 and 06, which should give you a pretty good idea.

Lifehouse - I think on TGP, the folks there simply got used to Gibson's QC hence the pseudo effect that it is now decent. Sure it has improved but the flaws are still there. Just check swee lee and it's apparent. Those flaws should not be there at the price level imho, even the better korean manufacturers have tighter QC than Gibson. The historic models of course has much tigther QC than the standards though.

There are also folks at TGP who would rather put their money towards epiphone than gibson in general. Go figure!

It'll be called the " iGuitar"

And there wont be strings either, it'll be a touch-screen, or in this case, a touch-screen fretboard.

Next thing that'll happen is the guitar will solo FOR you man. CRAZY! 8O

Hahha the Korg AX3000 has that solo function thing already =D

I believe there's a guitar with a screen at the back too. A tele or something I've gotta find that pic

almondx: That statement is pretty subjective. Also note that my point was that it is decent. I'm not implying its good. And I'm not a Gibby fanboy. I've owned enough high end/boutique stuff to know what defines reasonable QC.

I had 2 Gibsons. Both were immaculate. On the other hand, I had 2 Epiphones. One was a lemon, while the other was sweet (MIK 56' Goldtop P90s). So I'm speaking as somebody who has owned both brands, and not quoting from TGP or whatever forum.

The poor QC that you see is quite obvious, that what should have been returned had not been returned. Which essentially is sending a wrong signal to the manufacturer, saying it is ok to manufacturer something like that. And no. I did not purchase from the local distributor.
