THE FOOTBALL THREAD Vol 2

Ah well.........Liverpool won 1-0. Inter had Burdisso stupidly sent off in the 34th min and that changed everything. Torres scored his 7th goal in 2 weeks in the 64th min to put Liverpool 3-0 ahead on aggregate. A decent match, though the finishing, esp. from Inter could, and should have been better. Yea man Torres is on a superb roll. Let's hope he continues scoring against Reading at Anfield nxt wk 15/3 and then MAN U at Old Trafford on 23/3. To me, he is the best striker on the planet now, bar none.

i watched the highlights and saw torres score a cracker. liverpool are really lucky that they got this guy! fernando torres is of supreme quality man. he's more handsome than any other striker, he's more skilful than berbatov and he's faster than drogba!

Wenger - I'll keep faith with squad in summer

By Richard Clarke
Arsène Wenger will stick with his usual cautious spending pattern over the summer.
The Arsenal manager has slowly built up his current squad in recent seasons and, this term, he has been rewarded with a sustained title chase. The Frenchman has funds available to buy when the transfer window opens once more at the end of the current campaign but he will only spend within budget and, as ever, his priority is continuity.
"I will keep faith [with them] because we have worked hard for what we have now," said Wenger speaking before the weekend.
"I have said many times, the real target of a manager is to find the balance with what comes in and what goes out and build a team with these restrictions. It is to do well with the funds available.
"We have money because we made money and we made money because we made the right decisions. I believe a football team is not about buying and selling. It is about building, patience, working together and going through a growing process.
"Also it is enjoyable now to see the team coming slowly up and see how well they can do."
That said, Wenger IS prepared to spend big but, he argues, his decision to invest in youngsters a few years ago means that, so far, he has not had to.
"I would have to be completely convinced that it is right and not stupid for the future of the Club," he said.
"But I am in a position where I anticipated the years to come and I prepared for it. [So] I have never been in a situation where I needed to take a big gamble like that."

Oh My Yes It Was.

The Uefa Cup results just showed how much difference is there between the top 4 of England, and the rest of the teams.

true. but spurs and everton showed some promise in closing the gap.
well i guess it jus shows that the big four, are the big four.

cos you're a liverpool fan? haha.. nah joke..

but, everton usually performs on alternate seasons, so you might be right...

i realise, ever since watching Arsenal during the unbeaten season....

EVERY OTHER TEAM IN THE WORLD IS SUPER BORING!

not even Man Yoo, it's attacking football allright, just not as pwetty!

Ok, so Arsenal doesn't really score as much as they should, and they have a few of the dirtiest players in the EPL caught on camera (Eboue should have had like 5 red cards until today), no Englishmen of note (If most of Arsenal was English Steve Mclaren would still be England coach) and a crybaby captain (Gallas is really a great defender but CMI as captain... give it to Flamini or Cesc!)

Ok and I'm praying Man U loses or Cristiano breaks a leg (*ahem*)

doggieshamman - welcome to the true blue AFC thread - we got what U need

Arsenal v Middlesbrough

Barclays Premier League

Emirates Stadium

Sat, Mar 15, 2008, 5.15pm

By Richard Clarke

Theo Walcott will undergo a fitness test on Friday ahead of the Premier League game with Middlesbrough at Emirates Stadium.
The Arsenal winger injured his thigh a week ago in a behind-closed-doors match against Colorado Rapids and missed last Sunday's draw at Wigan. Arsène Wenger gave the 18-year-old only a small chance of being involved this weekend.
Meanwhile, Emmanuel Eboue is available again after missing the last three domestic games with suspension but Tomas Rosicky (hamstring) and Abou Diaby (calf) will have to wait a little longer.
"Tomas is still out and Abou is still out," Wenger told Arsenal TV Online on Thursday. "There is a little chance of Theo being back for Saturday but he has not practiced with the team yet. We will have a test tomorrow."
Eduardo is out for the season with a broken fibula and an open dislocation of his ankle. However the Croatian was at the training ground on Thursday and his manager was heartened by his early progress.
"Yes, we saw him today," said Wenger. "He came in and it was fantastic. He looked good. He is positive in his mind and a strong boy mentally.
"Of course we are sad to lose him for the season. But we are all pleased at the way he is dealing with it. Everybody who has been in this situation knows how difficult this is to take."

Haha is it me or do all the EPL teams in Merseyside perform very inconsistently? But credit to Wenger, i respect managers who actually use players frm their own youth academies and not imported talent (in terms of 'pre-packaged' stars like Anderson or Cristiano). As a Reds fan, of course i'd be biased to Liverpool but look at them now. Wat Vieira said was right, we ARE the team to watch out for.

AFC doesn't really produce many players, they buy the players from other clubs, say Cesc Fabregas was from Barcelona, and then they groom them.

I watch Liverpool play, as always, and that 2004 season made me watch Arsenal play at the same time, I do not support them, but I liked henry back then.
