i think he did it in the first place to get fergie’s attention for a “double your salary” increment which he eventuallly got .. Imagine gbp180,000 per week……

the rooney saga is really stupid. creating news and attention for himself and getting a payrise from it. and he isn't a fantastic player to begin with, the only reason he can score goals in man utd is because his man utd teammates create the chances for him to score! and i thought fergie is the "take no nonsense from players" and "no player is indispensable or above the club" kinda manager.

I think it was his agent who orchestrated it all. I don't believe Rooney actually knows his full value, or that Man U are starting to go into a bit of decline especially with the loss of Valencia. After all, agents get a lot of money during the deal negotiating process and also after they successfully negotiate the deal. I believe the amount of commission they get is directly proportional to the value of the deal. Hence, 5 year deal+$180k per week=hell lot of money for the agent as well.
