Bouncing back at Tottenham would be "massive" for Arsenal, according to Nicklas Bendtner.
The striker scored the opening goal as the Gunners suffered a 4-1 defeat to Barcelona on Tuesday night. But he is eyeing an immediate return to winning ways when Arsenal return to domestic matters next week.
Arsène Wenger's side travel to White Hart Lane next Wednesday night and Bendtner believes victory there, of all places, would give the squad a significant boost in the title race.
"It would mean a lot to us because Tottenham are our main rivals," he told Arsenal.com. "Beating them at their ground and maybe going second in the League, depending on other results, would be a massive thing for us.
"We only have the League to concentrate on now and we need to get five wins out of the last five games."
By kick-off on Wednesday night it will be eight days since the Gunners' last fixture. On the other hand Tottenham play their FA Cup Semi-Final on Sunday and Bendtner believes that extra recovery time could help Arsenal, especially on the back of a Champions League Quarter-Final.
"It is an advantage because we get time to recover from some hard games we have played," he said.
"You go on a high and play a certain type of football [in the Champions League] and then we get into the Premier League, so it's good that we have time to have it flattened out."
Two seasons ago Bendtner was introduced as a 75th-minute substitute against Tottenham at Emirates Stadium. Within 60 seconds he had marked his North London derby debut by heading in the winner.
"That was fantastic," he said when asked about the goal. "I loved every moment of that and the atmosphere is always amazing when you play derbies.
"They always had the players but never seemed to get it going whereas this season they have. They deserve to be where they are."
i'd like some of your optimism.. the fa cup final is after the bpl season end, i dont know what kind of distraction or extra games that would cause..
chelsea is sitting at the top of the league with a game in hand (at the moment of this post) and i'm FAR from celebrating.. anything can still happen
well that distraction isnt going to come until the league is over, so in that case it's true.
however i dont think it'll be that embarrassing for chelsea to lose to pompey in a cup final. 1, it is a cup final. 2, pompey are showing commendable spirit. 3, with nothing to play for the next 4 weeks, the cup final will be the only thing on the pompey players minds.
it's sad to see a club like pompey in the crisis they are now, give them some credit
