Premier League - Fabregas inspires Arsenal romp

Arsene Wenger celebrated becoming Arsenal's longest-serving manager by watching his side register a 6-2 victory over Blackburn Rovers at the Emirates.
The French tactician's 13-year tenure in charge of the Gunners meant he overtook George Allison's record and to commemorate the milestone, his side twice came from behind to hit Rovers for six.
And it was fitting that the victory should be inspired by Cesc Fabregas, a player who typifies Wenger's influence on the club having progressed through the ranks from youth player to club captain.
Fabregas made four goals - for Thomas Vermaelen, Robin Van Persie, Andrei Arshavin and the returning Theo Walcott - and scored one himself as Arsenal ultimately ran out comfortable winners.
Substitute Nicklas Bendtner added further gloss to the scoreline with a late sixth as Arsenal moved up to fourth thanks to their goals for column, which now reads 24 - the highest in the league.
But it was not all plain sailing for Wenger's men and they twice fell behind, first to Steven Nzonzi's opener and then to David Dunn's effort, both in the first half.
The end of the match turned out to be a walk in the park for Arsenal, but it bore little resemblance to the frantic opening, in which Blackburn sprang out of the blocks and endeavoured to put pressure on their opponents from the off, perhaps having learnt from Olympiacos' failure to do so during the midweek Champions League fixture.
Then, the Greeks were blown out of the water, but Sam Allardyce's side allowed their opponents little time on the ball and more than held their own during the opening exchanges.
Indeed, the visitors took a surprise lead after just four minutes of play, Nzonzi meeting Paul Robinson's long free-kick into the Arsenal box with a looping a back-header that drifted over Vito Mannone, who had slightly ventured off his line, and under the bar.
Fabregas went close to levelling things up six minutes later with a looping header of his own; Robinson furiously backpeddled but was saved by the woodwork as the ball came back off the crossbar.
The first equaliser of the day was not far away though and after Arshavin had whistled a cross-shot past the far post, Vermaelen pounced with his fourth goal of the season on 17 minutes.
Not for the first time since arriving at Arsenal in the summer, the Belgian defender plundered a goal any striker would be proud of - including the watching Thierry Henry - as he hit a crisp strike low past Robinson from 25 yards out.
With the score level again, Fabregas began to pull the strings in the Arsenal midfield, and the Gunners skipper was twice denied by smart saves by Robinson.
But from the second, Rovers broke quickly and took the lead again, Dunn finishing off the move with a heavily deflected shot off William Gallas on 31 minutes.
The goal signalled the start of a crazy six-minute spell that saw Arsenal first draw level and then take the lead for the first time in an opening period that ended with five goals having been scored.
Fabregas was the architect of both, first slipping a cute pass through for Van Persie to fire past Robinson before Arshavin benefitted from another piece of vision from the Arsenal skipper. This time, the Russian made no mistake with his finish from a tight angle.
Fabregas's selfless play deserved a goal, and he would have had one before the first-half was up had it not been for Robinson, who repelled his close range header on 44 minutes.
He was finally rewarded in the 57thminute as Arsenal took a 4-2 lead thanks to his spectacular left-footed strike that crashed into the top corner.
Fabregas was not finished there either, and it was his touch that teed up Walcott - making his first appearance of the season - for Arsenal's fifth.
With a quarter of an hour remaining, there was still time for a sixth. Bendtner, Walcott and Alex Song all went close before the former capped a fine attacking team performance with a strike in the final minute to rival Vermaelen's earlier effort.
