have you seen the above ad on TV by Channel News Asia where this doll bleeds tar then got chain-sawed in the head?

recently there's this concern that the ad was unsuitable for children (too traumatizing) so it got removed from prime time airing.

what's your opinion on this?

At first I saw the advert, I thought it was some horror show or something. Then I realised that It was the "saving gaia advert" ...

The doll is damme disgusting lah .. bleeding from the head like this, what might children feel ? gosh ..

i think it's fine.
it bring the message across, and it captures the audiences attention, which is the point of ads.
and we need to educate the young, which most people fail to see, and instead shielding them.

from a parent of 2 daughters (5 and 3 yrs old) POV

my 2 gals were quite shocked and upset that a doll could be done this way on prime time family slot...i told 'em that the doll "sakit"...got fever..its like watching Chucky and Chucky's movies are rated NC16?M18?..

if the ad was meant to put a very strong message about Mother Earth,i honestly believed another suitable avenue to get the message across could be done.

i think the advert aims to shock the viewers into realising the reality of what we are doing to the environment. nowadays we are bombarded by all sorts of ads and we naturally become numbed by the messages that they bring. however it seems that they forgot that children will be watching it too.

maybe they should have famous soccer players to talk about saving gaia instead.

i have a low opinion of ads which use shock tactics.
they're like the horror movies that go "BOOM' suddenly and make u jump.
it's like they can't think of anything creative.

if the shock tactics were for the sake of shocking, then it'd be trash... the fact they came round to using this means of relaying a message implied some level of thinking involved but liking it is another issue.

hmm im not really sure about that. somehow i getthe feeling that its not really conveying the message across. with most of singaporeans being the typical conserved type, and with most of the our parents being old and all. they just wont get it. they will see this ad, as just plain grotesque. heck i didnt get this ad the first time i saw it. i was like huh?

they don't get it becaue they don't ponder over it- its too symbolic for the lay-person. they get disturbed by the gore more than anything else...

yeah my point exactly. that is the typical singaporean afterall. which kinda defeats the purpose of the ad. the way i see, newpaper is going to talk about it soon.

oh and yeah, anyone knows what kinda services beez does? does he sell pickups?
orange drop cap? intonation? and whats a killswitch mod?

I think what matters is as long as it gets retinas staring at the glob of pixels for the length of the advert. Attracting attention by far is basically the main purpose and function. any other thoughts/pondering/feelings about the matter is secondary to the aim of the advert itself. The more people view the ads, the more the chance of raising awareness and generating creative thinking on the matter. Too bad some people thought it was too controversial for kids.

Parents are too quick to put the blame on media when they should be spending more time parenting and shutting the hell up.

parent react coz they are concern of their children behavior aftermath, traumatize children at a young age can actually remain in them till even they have their own family, for example, if a young girl being scarred by a innocent kitten at young age, they be traumatize their whole life, same goes here....is a psychological message that children decipher in their own brain tat we need to understand even we explain to them in a decent manner, how much do u think children will forget the gorey image???...
