Testing instrument... but not confirm buying.

Hello.

I am sure that this has happened to each of us. We go to a shop then ask for a recommendation or a specific model then test an instrument, say a guitar, but not sure that it is the right one for you. So you tell the shop dude, "im not sure, i want to look around first", which is true. You want to go to other shops to try other brands of guitars. And at that shop, the exact thing happens.

We are sincerely looking for a guitar to add to our collection.

Will this piss the shop owner off?

Are we at the fault for being 'fickle minded'?

no,but if u step inside and ask for the retail selling price and made audible comment like "whaa so expensive arh, soft or other shops sell it so much cheaper" then it may piss some shop owners off.

It depends really... Some shops i been to really encourage u to try and recommend things to u that u may like, one such shop is standard value. But then i have been to shops where even before u wanna ask to try, u see the guy's face so black, u also sian alr...

Testing with the intention to buy if u like it is perfectly fine, but if some ppl test just for sake of trying to see if reviews or forum is true then thats another thing. But, i understand that some ppl may not be able to buy yet due to still saving up $, but they wanna make sure that its something they wanna buy eventually instead of saving up for something that they eventually not buy.

Then again, retailers shld also know how to do business cuz u are paying for the goods and SERVICE as well. I think its about finding a sales staff thats frenly n u r comfortable with, cuz some shops got certain ppl to look for n certain ones to avoid lol. But generally, i think if we go in not yah yah n really are sincere then its ok :)...

If shops don't want us to try, then what's the point of having a shop? Might as well buy online...cheaper some more.

but shipping and stuff is quite a hassle not to include the waiting period which would screw with your mind making you constantly pondering over the matter "would my xxxx manage to reach my doorstep in one piece?" :o

... "whaa so expensive arh, soft or other shops sell it so much cheaper" then .....

"Hmmm... Its not cheap" or "way above my budget" would be a better way to put this across.
And usually, they'll counter-offer with a better price.

It works for us. :)

+1 about SV. last time when i sent my guitar there to do some repairs, mike was encouraging me to just take a guitar on the rack if i was interested in any of them and just try them while waiting for him to finish repairing my guitar.

if you date a girl, but not sure if she is the one for you, then you tell her "i'm not sure, i want to look around first", then you date other girls and tell them the same thing. do you think they will be pissed off? are you at fault for being fickle minded?

I don't think that's quite right. LOL. Oh well. The world's never quite right anyway.

thats why, if the girl is REALLY interested in you as well she would treat you nice. SO THAT you won't need to look around.

if you go to shop XXX and you see and try a guitar with top notch service anddddddddd if the person offers you a super super price and throws in a strap, pick, whatever you can think of.
would you then need to go to another shop?
thats how i feel. sometimes certain shops feel they have a constant demand and they can afford to be kinda arrogant in their service.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS, i understand that it could be due to guitars dropping and breaking thus they take such measures. but it goes a long way when you provide good customer service.

Eh, bro, dont so low until equate girl with guitar la. hahaha

Guitar. the more relic it gets, the level of shiokeness to play goes up. Girls, i dont know.

Gotta say, that yeah, some shops are quite accommodating. I feel that if you don't let prospective customers test your guitars, even if they have the intention to buy it, i doubt the customer will.

girls is not like guitar, girls are like guitar strings.

If I might have a say in this matter, I believe that it is alright in doing so.
All you have to do is just to thank the salesperson and say that you are not intending to buy or something. Perhaps say this before you try it and ask if it is possible just to check out the instrument and such. Politely of course.

there is serious buying and then there is serious testing. the shop has a right to expect that any testing should be done for the purpose of making a genuine decision to buy. there has to be an effort in trying to make a purchase happen, and the chance of you buying should be non-zero. not just suka suka. in other words, they are willing to entertain people who are looking for something; the right instrument at the right price. not some deadbeat who can't afford any instrument at whatever price. you can expect shop staff to have enough experience in being able to distinguish the 2
