tell me what is wrong with this voice

From point of view,

neat...puts me to sleep...puts me to sleep as in not boring but melodic too..simple recording great songs..u should try something like avril or michele branch or maybe kelly clarkson..

in other words...

a job well done..

thats from me.........................

Pretty decent singing overall, I wish'd my diction for english words were half as good...

Firstly I'd say try to be more comfortable with yourself and your voice, because it sounds like you're undecided which tone of voice to sing in. This can make a song sound rather inconsistent at times. And You're Beautiful somehow 'zai piao' (floating) probably cause haven't warm up properly right?

I like the style you sing Catalyst in, feels right and it's really good! Just some small pitching errors that comes with live recording =) I'm trying to improve on singing too, will start a thread for you to comment on mine. Feel free to contact me at apokalip85@hotmail.com to discuss about singing and stuff!

Jia you!

Regards,
Gary.

Not bad, you sound like those female indie artises (I mean it in a good way). Maybe can work a bit on projection and diction, I think your voice got potential. Are any of these original compositions? If not, maybe you can try writing something?

Pier.

The first song was done by which artist ? I liked the song and the way u sang it .. 1st time i heard this song..

you play guitar better than I do. ha ha.

yep watch the pronounciation , a little pitchy

liked how you pronounced "fuckin high" in You're Beautiful. maybe its just the vulgarities.

maybe that song got a little too low for you to sing the low pitched parts during the verses.

would like to request [Lisa Loeb's - Stay] on Ling FM. (here's a clickable link as a starter)
gd luck haha.

P.S : btw, forgot where I read it, it's impt to keep a smile on your face when you're singin' (depends on the lyrics really) cos it helps on the mood and the other thing gotta do with recording... tech talk. nvm.

50¢ worth. king of forum sparechange.

thanks

hi everyone,

thanks for the comments. shall work on the pitching. anyway, the songs are all covers. have you guys been to wala wala's? heard shirley/sherlyn singing?

do you think pubs don't want singers with my type of voice? i have this feeling like they only want the belters....but i personally find unexpected band too jarring after 2 hours of drinking.

ah well. also gotta have contacts to get gigs. kinda sad huh. anyone got any stories to share about how to get gigs?

and bands are so hard to get together too. either uncommited or too much drama.

Back to topic. songs are

Otherside of the world, originally by KT tunstall
You're beautiful, James Blunt
Angels or Devils, Dishwalla

Why would you think there's something wrong with your voice?

I am just wondering how come you are not (are you??!!?) "choped" by any band/producer yet to do something.....BIG

one way to find out whether pubs want/don't want your voice : ask.

don't waste your time on bands. you're doing fine as acoustic and if you get hired, the pub , by right, should hire another guitarist (heheh sorry, your guitar ain't gonna pull through.) then you'll just focus on your singin'

anyway I heard these kinda job usually require an "agent" , but middleman agents can cause trouble too. so best shot is go ask for yourself.

ask? really?

You mean you can just go up and ask? wouldn't that look kinda...in-your-face/ obnoxious? haha. i think i also need to expand my repretoire right.

by the way, recommend songs for me to cover!

First off my list:
1. Stay
2. Last Kiss (pearl jam)

Damn, purevolume only allows me to upload 4 songs.

erm i mean like approach the manager or something la.. just say you're new to this and wondering whats the prerequisites and all. don't mind me i'm just blunt, put the suggestions to your interpretation.

i thought i mentioned lisa loeb's "stay"..

you can do that?

yah, and i noted it above. =)

and you can go to the bar manager and do that? have you or anyone you know done it before?

like i said i heard they usually do this through an agent.but what harm could it cause by just making a simple direct enquiry?

i'm not a vocalist. but if I wanted a job that I don't know any other way to get it , my approach is always ask directly. if they feel that they require professionalism from you to be introduced through an agent, then so be it , go back there with one or approach someone else. unless they're the typical inflexible singaporeans sort..

I think its Shirlyn. Eh i lurve her voice! I think she`s really an awesome singer + she`s got that great On-Stage persona.

I guess if you are really interested to do pubs, like what blueprint mention, u should just walk up to the manager and ask.. if you are too shy, then maybe see if u can get the pub Co email and send an email first.

well..that, or

haha. i'll probably go there and say "let me rock this joint for a minimum wage" holding a whip (and probably an SM costume to complete the look) to make up for the lack of agent.

if one day i have the guts and get drunk enough, i'll do it.

for now, maybe i'll try persuading my dad to be my pseudo agent. haha.
