I'm more keen on little delay pedals with bells & whistles... I found that I really enjoy my delay with 4 controls :

Level
Repeats
Delay Time
Tone

I like the option of making my repeats brighter so its heard... and turning down the tone so the delays becomes more of an ambient effect.
