The person concern will not be bringing in Istanbul Agop cymbals as he will be going overseas for studies. So all have to settle with Istanbul Mehmet cymbals with Nigel...

hmmm thanks drum hobbyist for sharing ur knwoledge on istanbuls.
i have noticed that lots of the proffesional istanbul series' mostly cater to rides and hats only haha...so its hard to choose, i guess i'll just stick to sabian

and what are ur views for the istanbul china? do u think that traditional sounding china's will sound good? perhaps it will be nice for those who like raw souding chinas, but if its for the mehmets, wont they sound a tad too crisp? (china being crisp souding? dont quite like de idea...)

:D hmm... i love the samatya rides and hats, but somehow not too fond of the crash haha... maybe u would consider a boshporus crash instead?

ur not too fond of sabian isit? if not, if ur lucky u can pick up a good sabian box set from the sweelee sale...

haha yea but drum resource is having problems bringing it in... anyway i got myself a zildjian oriental china trash for the time being already haha... till the wuhans come... dono how many eons more have to wait....

joshie... check luther musicworks classified ads... there is this guy selling Sabian HH set for $400... really deflated price... as a pro will know... that is no such thing as second-hand cymbal when comes to high-end cymbals... it is the sound that matters not the cosmetic... hit the cymbal from day one will sound the same or if not better ten years later... 8)

thats cheap but its second hand? thats bad!

There is no such thing as second hand cymbal as far as the sound is concern. The value is in the sound. You pay because of the sound. I have cymbals where people are willing to pay up to 50% of the actual price because they couldn't find that 'voice' in other cymbals elsewhere... but I am not selling because money can get all the time but not for rear good sounding cymbals...

This kind of knowledge is lacking in our drumming community... young drummers are always losing money when they sell because of the need for cash... pro cymbals don't depreciate, they appreciate... it is like buying gold and drinking fine wine

the state of the cymbal adds to the sound bro.
the layer of dirt "darkens" the sound of your cymbal.
and personally, i'd love my ride to look dirty anyway haha.

Yup... tarnishing or oxidation of the surface of the cymbal does make the cymbal sounds better especially for Ride cymbals... what I meant was stick marks, fading logo and key hole are not reasons to down the value of a good sounding cymbal...

The kind of key holes that we commonly see have little effect as far as the sound of the cymbals is concern... if you hear a cymbal and like the sound but discover that there is key hole, would you change your mind in getting the cymbal?

yea in terms of sound quality the keyholing might not be something to wry about, but the reason why ppl dislike cymbals with keyholing is because the keyholed cymbal has a higher tendency to get more cracked over the ages. so in terms of durability in the long run, keyholing will put you off buying a cymbal you like. because if u really like that cymbals sound, you wud want it to last you for as long as possible, but the keyholing might negate that.

To be precise... it was Alchemy cymbals... what I last heard that the person responsible is presently serving NS and will resume shipment of the cymbals after ORD. Will check out what is the lastest status. The last time bought the professional series 8" and 10" splash for $190. Excellent cymbals... one drummer who played the 10" splash valued the quality to be at least $150...

Hi guys. I was the one who brought in Istanbul AGOP cymbals. Yes i brought in both Istnabul Agop and Alchemy cymbals. Both are from the same company and are great sounding. I have sold every last one of them and am keeping a 14'' Traditional Dark Crash for myself. I hope all those who have bought the cymbals... some of whom got VERY GOOD PRICES heh heh... are enjoying them.

I would really love to continue brining them in, but due to my studies, i won't be able to. I will be going aus for studies. If by the time i'm back, and there is still a strong demand for these cymbals, and no one is bringing it in, i will consider to do it again.

I personally have not compared agop to mehmet. Any one have tried both want to comment. As for value, i believe Istanbul cymbals provide the best value for money thats why i brought it to Singapore in the first place.

I think it takes alot of courage to buy something not commonly use here in Singapore. I.e. most people use sabian and zildjians. But as the saying goes, fortune favors the bold heh heh... so go check it out if you can... you'll like them.

Hi Lemuel...

Good to see you here... all the best in your studies... I believe by then when you come back, the drumming community here will mature in another level... and there will be a great demand for new sounds... yah hope you can bring those beauties back again... I want to own an arsenal of Alchemys... 8)
